So...when Mourinho comes....will he try to bring Drogba back?

dont think so. didiers career here is over....and thats good. he is a legend, no need to demolish his status. we need to look into the future not into the past. there are enough strikers out there....

Took him a year and half before he dropped him, and even then only when he got injured and others perform better.

Expect him to try and stick longer with Lampard even though he clearly should only be used as an impact player for next season

No, he was played consistently only in his first year only. Does 13 games sound like half a year to you? There was also a reason he was played in his first year: he played well.

Aside from making a mistake here or there, he played exceptionally well for someone his age. You seem to be making it out as if Pepe and Ramos are Beckenbauer in comparison?! The red card specialists?! Really? They too are prone to brain farts just as much as any La Liga defender, but at least if Ricky made a mistake, it was mainly due to his failing body. In the second season he didn't play well, so he was dropped.

Besides, what is La Liga know for? Defending? I don't think so. When you have one of the top two teams in the league with Ronaldo, Benzema, Ozil etc. You can pretty much forget about the defence. Barca do it all the time.

The fact that you're basing your argument on one player, one time (and who actually played well), in a completely different team, in a completely different league with a different ethos just shows how laughable your argument is.

Mourinho is a winner above anything else. I don't see him ever jeopardising that over sentimentality.

Did he? I seem to remember him being part of the back 4 that conceded 5 to Barcelona, not to mention letting in stupid goals in other games. I remember his last season for Chelsea, I think everybody on this board was demanding he be forever dropped and make way for Alex. It was clear for most that he was declining yet Mourinho took him. Same again with Essien, guy has no kneecaps and for some reason Mourinho wants him, and no way improves the team.

That's it, measure him up against Messi and Barcelona. And all of those goals were because of him then? All 5 goals?

So far you've only mentioned one game against one of the best teams ever constructed...your argument seems to be getting weaker the more you speak.

Essien has shown he sufficient enough for La Liga and I'd say he would be sufficient enough as a DM for us. Though probably against teams out of the top 6 or so. However, his wages are a different matter altogether; he's probably on quite a bit, but I'm not sure. He can definitely contribute as a DM though. As slow as he has become, he's certainly more mobile than Mikel. He won't be a starter though as we'll end up buying a new DM/DLP in the summer for sure.

Return of ugly football? We are still suffering the consequences of Mourinho's in terms of a midfield that can not string two passes together. Let's wait and see I guess.

Call me a WUM if you like, but I only speak truths, even if they are uncomfortable. Our midfield got completely outclassed today by Benfica. If Mourinho returns and starts Mikel + Lampard in the center again, I will faint. Need a manager with a vision for attacking, possession football. Mourinho is just hoof and pray football.

So the guy who coached the Real Madrid team that set a La Liga record for goals scored last season doesn't have a vision for attacking football? Lulz

Hoof and Pray? You've never seen a Real Madrid match in the last 3 years I'm assuming.

Some crazy arguments here, hey.

Well all I can say is that we will never know if we don't try.

I mean heck we gave a shot to Benitez of all people.

If Mourinho comes back and suck ass he will get the sack, simple as that.

But his talent and experience speaks great volume and promises great future. :-)

the players we've been buying don't seem like Jose type guys.I can see this being an end to Josh's career here. I think Oscar will actually excel in Jose's system but feel nervous about Mata in a Jose team.

Some people are so uneducated when it comes to Mourinho it's actually frightening. Its bad enough getting this from opposition fans.

Mourinho knows how to win games, to win trophies, that should never be mixed up with playing boring football. In the 04/05 season especially we played fantastic, attacking football just because we could defend, don't mix that with playing boring football. Mou likes to relax a bit when were 3-0 up in matches instead of going for 7 or 8 (ala Carlo) but again that should not be mistaken for boring football, as it preserves energy for the next games. I rather win two matches 2-0 then one 8-0 and draw the other 0-0 because were shattered.

People who think Mourinho would reverted to Essien and Lampard in the pivot are again outrageously paranoid. There is one thing saying he's defensive minded, it's a complete other thing saying he will surrender the midfield battle, absolutely no way and for my money that will be the main area he tries to sort out this summer. Mourinho is not a Liverpool fan, he won't surrender title's because he is in love with 2005.

Mourinho will get the balance right in this squad (something we have been crying out for all season, no?)

There is a joy in winning bastardized football. I don't feel it anymore though. I'm sorry. It's an embarrassment that we've spent more than half a billion pounds and still can't get these guys to string two passes together against good teams. We have to establish a long term tradition of playing exciting football, and promoting the many young talents we have at the club. Mourinho is not the right choice.

If you are desparate to win titles in a space of a couple of years, Mourinho is an excellent choice. If though you care about style, promoting good traditions, promoting good football in a way that benefits the club in the long term, you should stay away from Mourinho. He is a manager that manages with certainty to create such an acrimonious atmosphere wherever he is that he has to leave within a couple of years. Remember we were 5th in the league when Mourinho was fired. This will again end in tears like it did last time.

Stay away ! Go to Mansour please ! Hopefully we can get someone like Heyneckes or Klopp.
