The Mourinho Thread

I don't think anyone can rationally say that we've missed Jose. We are clearly improving substantially since his departure in both performances and more importantly results.

That said, I do agree with something he said before he left: He did do an incredible job last season, particularly in the first half, to get these players playing WAY above their standards and winning the title. I genuinely doubt any other manager would have managed it because this squad is simply not good enough.

So, by that logic he either got them deliberately playing way below par at the start of this season  -or the players downed tools. If its the latter its shocking for whatever reason, no excuses.

I've said this before, but I think it's just the nature of his motivation and man-management techniques that they will always be short-term and have a tendency to blow back after winning major silverware.

But even that, I think, was just one factor at the start of this season. Another is the awful post/preseason format we did that left the players well behind everyone else fitness wise, then there was the bad publicity and the effect it had on moral, and the fact that some key players returned from vacation a bit overweight and others started the season in a very nonchalant taking-it-for-granted attitude and whole other bunch of factors but I think the motivation was probably the biggest one.

So its the latter then. Players have a responsibility paid hundreds of thousands a week not to come back fat from pre season.

There is a bit of the three season syndrome and Jose spat his dummy out over the lack of transfers, and the Buckenalo mediocre names now outsourced -however the players didn't perform for the club, their employer, for whatever reason and need to look at themselves over that.

Look, I'm happy for all he has brought to this club and hope he enjoys a happy birthday, but saying how times are 'sad' and that we need him is just completely deluded. It's almost cult-like. We have made massive improvements given the context we were and that alone makes us happier. Some here are willing to go back to that rubbish Football just for the sake of Jose being manager. Chelsea is above any player, manager, or owner.

We will see it in the long run, but our style of play has improved, currently, i'm not denying that.
There are reasons for the failure, maybe some players didn't want to play for the manager anymore and decided to let the club down, could be the case or not, who knows...
The point is Jose Mourinho isn't standing above the club, i think 'almost cult-like' is over the top, he is part of the family and for me and others it's a sad thing that it had come to that.

I think the owner Roman Abramovich is standing above the club. Chelsea is his property, he has invested a lot of money, he could sell every top player just because of his mood...
Some day members of the family will be asking for a refund, imo. He didn't donate most of the money, there are ways to get some of it back, but until the day comes, enjoy the ride...

Regards!

Obviously the players shoulder a big part of the responsibility in addition to Jose and the board, but you can't fire the squad, can you?

And the lack of transfers as well was a hit.

To my mind some of the under-performers should have been bombed out.

Not getting Stones was a massive disappointment for Jose, and the defence as a whole. Our defence was a major factor in the downfall -we know who we're talking about, and would cost any manager (bar Wenger ) his job, ultimately. The defence at present isnt just a leak its a waterfall. They perform just about for the CL and games like Sunday, but are asleep most of the time.

There needs to be 2 new signings, or one top defender and someone with the quality of Christensen given a go. As has been shown though, spending big on superstars at SB doesn't mean quality is retained.

That is very true, but we need to remember that Jose himself is also to blame for why have so little options in defense from before this season. He sold Luiz with no replacement, let both Ash and Bertrand go for "best-LB-in-the-world" Luis. We've desperately needed a center half and full back since Jose's arrival here but both he and the board didn't act. We currently have just 6 defenders in the entire team. That's suicide!

We know the manager has input into who comes and goes, but according to the job description Emanalo (is that Nigerian for iceberg ?), is responsible for the final decision in transfer activity. Even he is not solely employed in this, as the other two ex Sibneft employees, Maria Whateverthefuckhernameis and Bruce (passthe) Buck, according to a lot of the media also stick their oars in. Bottom line , a lot of the decisions seem based on whims by people that know fuck all about football.

The official language in Nigeria is English, you racist! :P

Yeah, I totally agree that the board is largely to blame, but when it comes to defenders I think it's likely that so was Jose because we didn't try ton increase our defensive cover in the period after selling Luiz.

I think our title win was more down to the weakness of other teams than it was because of Mourinho's management.

:D he is a cunt though. I dont see how Jose can be responsible for the defence but not the other transfers.

My gut feeling is that he and others have input, then it is funneled up through Buckenalo, Grammiwhatsherface, to Abramovich, who then looks at his phone, looks bemused, raises his eyes to the sky, looks back at his phone, mumbles something, does that watery smile, and then walks off, dreaming about resigning Shevchenko.

Tbf, I'd have taken Shevchenko over Falcao this season...
