Petr Cech

It should've been in Chelsea Blue.

I remember when he was the new kid on the block. A Czech GK called Cech. I was sold. Took the league by storm from the go. I was in love.

A genuine legend and my favourite GK.

That's how I felt until he went to Arsenal.

Like with Lampard now he's left City and Joe Cole after he left Liverpool, I'll love him again when he leaves those shitcunts.

I like how Chelsea allowed him his wish to stay in London but yeah, Cech in Gunnerwear is no good.

But I still love him to bits, I can't help it. Having Mr. T-Bo as his replacement helps (a lot).

I don't know what's worse the fact Cech choose Arsenal or the fact Roman sanctioned it.

Thierry Henry would have probably liked London life and been partial to staying, but he would never have come here after leaving Arsenal.

When you build up such a legend status at a club, you DON'T join a rival, its one thing Cesc and Gallas doing it, its another Cech doing it.

shoulda just sold Courtois for 30m, kept Cech/some spine/that presence/talent he brings & just bought a good replacement keeper in a couple more years like every other club would do

we lost a lot of intangible quality with this move.

Ok hes done it for his family, fair enough. However, youu have to question why the powers that be are letting him go, he has signed a 4-yr deal, so why couldn't he see out the last year with us, then sign a 3yr deal next summer?

If reports are true, that he will receive the last year of his contracts wage (£4m), then we end up being out of pocket once we have signed his replacement. We have £6m of the £10m to buy a keeper and pay his wage. Seeing as Stoke are being reported as turning down a £6m bid from us, for Begovic, I'd say we are the mugs.

On top of all that, where does it leave Mourinho? Said publicly that he didn't want him to be sold, he was obviously trying to take care of his squad.

So we end up swapping Cech for Begovic, and paying out on top. There's absolutely zero FFP in that.

Nailed Jose being undermined. Apparently it did have ramifications.

Absolutely not. Courtois is a freak talent and will go on to surpass every record Cech ever sat. Courtois at 22 is a better keeper than Cech at the same age. More to the point, right now, in 2016, Thibaut Courtois is superior to Petr Cech in every single aspect except for experience, and he'll achieve that with age.

Hahaha, no!

I'm pretty sure that if Tibo won't go to real for 50m he will set more records that Cech. The kid is one of the best even maybe the best goalkeeper in the world, and he is only 23! Cech wanted a move to Arsenal and we are not that club to keep players even if they want a move.

There's a difference between not keeping a player and letting a great player make a despised team into a title contender against the coach's wishes.

Roman fucked Jose and this club with that move but he doesn't work with Arsenal fans or know what that rivalry is because he's not one of us.

I don't see this the same way as you do for at least three reasons.

First, I'm proud of my club for doing what I think is the right thing. Petr did his job here for many years but all he deserves for that is his salary. Beyond earning his pay however, he also won a place in the hearts of Chelsea fans and that gets him more than mere cash. I'd rather Arsenal win the league than we say to a club legend, a man we love, that he can no longer start here and that if he wants to start elsewhere he has to uproot his family and move abroad, or else he must join a team which is not competitive. Our owner may be a child of the Soviet era, but he isn't running a Gulag.

Second, I do not believe this move was against Jose's wishes at all. If you remember Jose's initial comments on Petr's situation he talked about Petr being a special case, of being proud that this club recognises the right of a legend to choose. He said that a number of times in a number of press conferences and only much later did he start to contradict that position. I have not a single shred of evidence to support what I'm about to write but nevertheless I believe that TSO's change of tune was fake and that he was put up to it by Maria Granovskaia to help her negotiating position with Arsenal.

Third, Arsenal are not a zillion points ahead of us because they signed a good player. They are are ahead of us because we signed too many bad ones. The only way I would ever want to see Arsenal win the league is if the alternative was that Liverpool or Spurs would win it instead. Other than that, I'd hate to see Wenger's lot claim the title but if they do, so be it. I'm still proud that Chelsea showed class.

I get that thinking, I do. I think the idea of it being a Gulag is a bit hysterical though. Petr chose to be a footballer, just like you or I chose our careers and just like you or I he understood that to maximise his earnings he'd probably have to move abroad. He's known that ever since he left the Czech Republic to move to France. I love the man, but again he's a grown man. These are things we have to deal with as adults.

As for Jose, there are various reports that he didn't want him to go to Arsenal and that Roman sanctioned the deal. Based on everything we know about Jose and Wenger's relationship, and Jose's relationship with winning I tend to believe those reports. That brings me to your third point that Arsenal have been lacking a leader and a top-class keeper for a decade. Every pundit and supporter knew this, and we gifted them both for what is at best a fair price. He's been the difference for them in a number of matches, most recently yesterday and he's made them proper contenders and absolutely no-one should be surprised by that.

Maybe if we'd been contenders too it wouldn't matter, but because the board have fucked up so badly this past summer and gave up on the title before a ball had been kicked then it wouldn't matter. But there's every chance that Arsenal will win the title and whilst we can talk about being classy to Pete and not forcing him to work in a Gulag/spend a few years in a beautiful city like Paris (oh the horror, someone phone The Hague) I think it would've been classier for Roman to think about his fellow Chelsea supporters/customers and not put them through the shitshow that would be Arsenal winning the title.

But I also think it would be a great way for Roman to pile more shit on Jose. He says Wenger is a 'Specialist in Failure' so Roman does what he can to help him win the title.

But I do understand your points. I just disagree and for me the focus isn't on what's best for Pete, but what's best for this club and it's supporters going forward. Always has been, always will be.

Plus when the deal when through many felt he wouldn't make a difference due to their squad and Arsenal being Arsenal..which at the moment complete opposite. He has made a huge difference there but daft not to expect him to.class player and deserves another trophy even if not with us..just shame may be with arsenal lol.Hey ho

Yes, we know that Jose said he was against the move. The point is he only started saying that after he had said several times that he believed Big Pete deserved to be allowed to make his own choice. He even said he was proud of Chelsea for being the kind of club that would make such a decision. He said it in more than one press conference which I watched and I'm convinced he was being genuine. Only later did he start saying that he didn't want Petr to join a rival and I've explained why I think his public statements changed.

I don't believe for a nano second that Roman wants to make any negative gestures towards Jose. The decision to allow Petr to choose was made by decent people who did the right thing. I'm proud of them.

You have your theories. Mine is that he was against strengthening a direct, reviled rival (for obvious reasons) but that he towed the party line, just like he would later on in the season when he didn't give the board the criticism they deserved for failing to deliver the reinforcements the squad needed. The guy even kept smiling when he was served up with Papy which is why I think Roman stuck with him longer than he might have otherwise. I think Jose actually bit his tongue.

You think it's the right thing but I think that doing best by the fans and the best interests of this club is the right thing. Instead we strengthened Arsene Wenger's squad.

I don't know who I'm more wound up at, Roman for letting him go to Arsenal or Cech for actually doing it.

How can anyone spend 11 years here and want to go anywhere near that club is beyond me.

Is it? I mean it's pretty obvious. He did not wish to move his family to a new City and wanted to break the EPL record for CSs and Arsenal was the only big club in the EPL needing a keeper.

Of course you can say that is not enough or unjustified, but the reasons are pretty clear, imo.
