Eva-gate 2.0. Spot on. This has an Eva-feel to it, unfortunately. Always something isn't it. Thing is, I wanted a manager that took no player power so in Jan when this China thing came up I was glad to see the club back Conte and have his decision as final. Costa's interview comes across as a bit sob story'ish and as usual we never know the actual truth or details we just speculate. Just take the money from Atletico, something is better than nothing and having this circus. Costa did a good job for us, went missing a few times but most players do during a season at one time or another.
the wes 7,212
BALAGUE: COSTA CHESS GAME Guillem Balague on Diego Costa: "He has just one plan and that is to go to Atletico. "Atletico have told him to sit tight because the longer he sits tight the cheaper he will be. But Chelsea have said there’s a price and if you want him pay it. He can’t play for Atletico until January because of the transfer ban. It’s a chess game."

Unlikely to be a coincidence that it happened during the season's 1st game either. kmk108 and kellzfresh

We should just ask Atletico for one of their spare midfielders as part of the Costa deal.  Leif
LemmeBorrowThat 124
He definitely could've handled this better but if he wants to leave then we should've just let him go...no point in holding onto someone who clearly doesn't want to be here and Costa is not the type to settle
laeth 527
Can see Costa still being here until January or next summer, to be honest. Not going to do his world cup efforts any good getting fat in Brazil.
RoyalBlues 4,050
He is partying with Atletico shirt ffs. He don't want to play for us again, and we don't want him anymore. Pay the price or rot on the development squad.
Superblue 6,372
It's a sad state of affairs and whilst Costa is far from blameless, it seems the club continuously fails to learn from previous mistakes when people have left the club in controversial circumstances. The most frustrating part is IF Costa is genuine when he says he would be happy to stay and commit to the club, we would have a potentially lethal strike force of Costa and Morata with Bats as backup and our attacking options would suddenly look far stronger. However I do admire Conte that he is sticking to his decisions, you cannot be seen as weak as a football manager. The trump card I guess we still hold is Costa's ambition to play for Spain in the World Cup. If we refuse to sell, and he is left not playing all season he simply won't be playing in the World Cup that's for certain.

No way we would splash 58-70M on Morata if we still had Costa. Blue-in-me-Veins
kmk108 1,186
Me, I'm not going to believe anything he's saying right now. Not when he wants something from the club.
ccheongf 211
Costa is acting like a spoiled kid, he not acting like a professional, not like Nemanja Matic, he wanted to go to MU but still train like usual at Chelsea till his move. ;Costa heart is not at Chelsea and his action is like hitting back at Chelsea. Eventhough he is good but cant have this type of player here. Now he pointing fingers and blaming everyone else but himself. The season had started but where is he now ???? Eating and getting FAT. Adnane 1,101
That's a great comparison with Matic, the club would have probably settled for less money if it meant putting an end to this childish saga, had he been more professional about the situation as a whole. Johnnyeye

Johnnyeye 7,510
this saga is getting tiresome, Costa is as unprofessional as they get, he´s just trying to play the victim role when all of this is happening because of his shit attitude and antics, im with Conte on this, he handled this in the best way he could, maybe the text was unnecessary but it was for a reason, im sure he´s doing what is best for the club and that he doesnt tolerate bullshit from anyone, that´s autority and the players need to know whos in charge. We need to remove Costa´s toxicity from this club, we cant have any of this, there is no way back for him now, im not simply going to ignore what he did for us, by helping us win 2 league titles, i thank him for that, but his shit behaviour was always there for everyone to see, it was only a matter of time something like this happened, we dont need any of that from any of our players, no player is bigger than the club, look at our past players and tell me who has behaved like Costa, thats right, no one, and despite all his qualities as a player, he´s a toxic person. Cheers and good riddance  kellzfresh

How in the hell that means he wanted to leave since 2015? Yes he wanted to leave last year, but everything else is made up, including china, it was explained in interviews. And some people keep going at Costa based on fake facts. That doesnt excuse Diego for talking shit in public since june.
