The only player besides Hazard that has any creativity to offer. Arsenal dominated us with a midfield 3 of Coquelin, Cazorla and Ozil. From a defensive point of view that's the equivalent to us fielding a midfield of Kante, Fabregas and Hazard. Yet we're stuffing our midfield full with worker ants and then act suprised when we can't string three passes together.   Thing is we have no dynamics in there with Matic and Cesc. Meanwhile Coquelin, Cazorla and Ozil are all dynamic enough to work when they have the ball, to move it around quickly. We decided to play defensive, thats why we thrown Matic, Cesc and Kante. Meanwhile Arsenal went attacking and thats why they picked those players. But we entirely fucked up with tactics. We should press them, take control and dictate tempo. Arsenal has no players to outpower us in such case. That midfield would be useless for them in case we actualy pressed them and attacked alot. But we went opposite. We allowed them to have all the time on the ball, to set up attacks and to press us which killed our midfield entirely. Like some pointed Oscar would be much more useful in this game than Cesc or Matic. Thing is, Cesc was always good against arsenal (only good side he performed well against), but thats because they never pressed us. However they prepared well for this game. Any team that presses us, kills us. And Arsenal finaly managed to figure that out too. Thats why Cesc didnt play well. I know we have midfield problems, Matic and Oscar have their faults, but Cesc shouldnt play again against teams that press. His passing is quality, but he completely destroys the midfield with his slow movement and lack of agression and mobility. And with such midfielder, there is no way we will succeed because its like playing with 10 men. Now Matic is a problem too with his slow movement, so if we had two Kantes, maybe maybe Cesc could play, but in current case no way. He is absolute shit under pressure and all teams are starting to play those tactics against us. DYC., kellzfresh, communicate and 1 other

I don't remember who it was that proposed it first ( think it was DYC or Skipper but i'm not sure ) but Willian could be a good fit at CM. Probably the closest thing we have to Kante. Maybe go 3-5-2. Back 3, Azpi and Alonso on the wings, Fabregas in front of the defense, Willian and Kante on either side of him, Hazard and Costa up top. Would help Fabregas get on the ball more and get him away from pressure (not completely but still it would help).   kellzfresh

Since defensive stability can't be found in the current set-up switching to a more cautious system might be the way to go for now. But with Fabregas in the middle, I'd always go for Oscar at CM instead of Willian because of his superior tactical sense and him being the better defender. El P. 1,354
Stop this comparing Fabregas with Cazorla nonsense. Yes, Fabregas has a better passes. but that's it. Cazorla has A LOT better close control/dribbling (actually can dribble past opponent), he is stronger on the ball (better body balance) and is somewhat more durable and faster. Also, he is good with both legs. And IS a very good passer. With the offensive qualities of Cazorla, you can focus on playing attacking football and put defensive in another plan. Like it or not, Cazorla is much closer of being a complete midfielder than Fabregas. We are acting as Fabregas is attacking machine, but the truth is: his only true quality is pass and good ball control (first touch). You can't oversee his defensive lapses, but not because of not protecting defense. It's because he doesn't offer enough in attack either! I completely agree with this. Cazorla doesn't need the team to be built around him. He can slot in alongside a more-defensive minded player and dictate the tempo of the game. Fabregas needs the team to be built around him, otherwise he is useless on the pitch.

We only have 2 players that you can call creative so we need to make the most out of them, the 3-5-2 does that. It allows Fabregas to influence the game from deeper while still having enough players around to make sure he doesn't get isolated while also allowing Hazard to be further forward. Willian or Oscar all in all it doesn't really matter bith have their strenghts and weaknesses. Oscar might be the better defender and have a superior tactical sense then Willian but Willian has the ability to break from deep with pace. 1 hour ago, El P. said: Stop this comparing Fabregas with Cazorla nonsense. Fabregas is what we got and we have to make do with what we've got, for now. Noone is saying that we should build our team around Fabregas for multiple seasons to come but right now there's still the majority of the season to play for. We have to add creativity to our team and Fabregas is 1 of the 2 players we have that can offer it.  Muzchap

KevinAshburner 1,270
Chelsea transfer shock! Juventus want Cesc Fabregas plus world record fee for Leonardo Bonucci http://talksport.com/football/chelsea-transfer-shock-juventus-want-cesc-fabregas-plus-world-record-fee-leonardo-bonucci Juventus will sell Leonardo Bonucci to Chelsea, but only for a world-record fee for a defender PLUS Cesc Fabregas. The Italy international is Antonio Conte’s number one transfer target as he seeks to bolster a backline that has failed to convince him in his short time in charge at Stamford Bridge. The Sun says Juventus are ready to play hardball at the negotiating table and will only allow the 29-year-old to leave for a figure in excess of the £50m the Blues offered in the summer – and they want Spain midfielder Fabregas thrown in as well. Juve want the former Arsenal and Barcelona star to replace the ageing Claudio Marchisioand, having found himself out of favour since the start of this campaign, Fabregas may well be open to the move. Chelsea would prefer to keep him, but Conte may have no choice if he remains determined to bring in Bonucci to replace Gary Cahill. It is unlikely a deal will be done in January given the Serie A side’s Champions Leaguecommitments, but the two clubs look set to try to broker a deal next summer. Sideshow Luiz 2,310
I know he doesn't fit a 2 man midfield at all, but I still don't really want to get rid of him. In the second half against Leicester, they took a hold of the game. Â It looked like Conte went to a 352 when Chalobah came on. Â I still think there's a place for Cesc in that formation here. I'm sure he's considered it, I'm sure he's talked about it with his staff. Â Maybe he'll give it a go in a league cup match. Â Cesc deep with Kante and Chalobah in midfield.
