I'd rather sell him abroad for 30 mill, but I haven't heard of anybody being seriously interested other than United, so this may be our best chance of significantly cashing in from a player who probably wants to leave. And on the positive side we can use that money to finance the signings of other potential targets that Conte really wants. Ideally of course I would not sell him at all and keep him to compete with Bakayoko. Selling him also means getting another midfielder unless Conte puts a lot of trust in Chalobah/Baker/RLC, which I doubt. Having only Bakayoko, Kante, Fabregas, Chalobah is far too thin and would once again put us in a place where one injury/suspension would set us back to stone age. But if Mata could make peace with Jose then Matic also can. He'd be good squad player but if the club receive such good money then it's yes every time. We're buying another midfielder alongside Bakayoko in this scenario. Honestly maybe we need more starting calibre central midfielders with our shortcomings upfront. We're likely to have Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Batschuayi and Lukaku, that's laughable comparing to City. We can play more times with 3 midfielders then and use Fabregas as creative source more often, with two adept midfielders alongside him and Alex Sandro on the left. It's unlikely anyway that we're signing top class creative player. This is Chelsea FC (aka Hollywood FC) we're talking about here. It wouldn't be a shock if the board thinks a midfield of Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko and Chalobah is enough for next season, just like they thought buying the likes of Baba Rahman, Falcao, Djilobodji would be enough to defend our title. Going into the new season with Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Chalobah, Loftus-Cheek and whoever else from the academy feels risky. It seems Conte trusts Chalobah to do a job but the same can't be said about Loftus-Cheek, who barely got into the matchday squad towards the end of last season and even when he was used, he was playing upfront than in midfield. And we don't know how the others will fare if thrown straight into first team action. We're just 1-2 injuries away to being down with bare bones in midfield. We need a new CM and arguably, we need another creative CM. Surely we can't go with just only 1 in the team again? We'd be right back to a midfield that includes Cesc which means any good team will dominate us in the middle of the pitch. We certainly need more than one signing there.
