But you can argue that all of our options at CM atm should be squad players and what we need for that position is a world-class player. Plus 18m for a squad player? Then there's that he doesn't really fit a 2-man central midfield, and that there's better options available for about the same price or even cheaper...etc

We have enough squad players like Lampard,Mikel and MVG(Even though he is injured right now). What we need is a world class midfielder or someone who has atleast decent playmaking ability.

Didn't someone bring up a stop gap point here before? Get him as cover for now until the season is over. I really don't see much point in over-paying for any world-class midfielder in January. Get Guarin , rotate him with the squad and get through until the end of it unless you want to go for a risky option and get a world-class CM.

Who?

Gundogan? Witsel? Pogba?

Two of those players are scheduled to play one another in the next round so it's unlikely we'll get them for a competitive price. Guarin might just be the best available option that fits our budget.

The thing is if we really want a stop gap then why not promote from within?Chalobah I am confident can help us out and Ake did not look out of place in the EPL or Europa league last season. Why not give them a chance? Is it really neccessary to spend 15m on a player who will be nothing but a mere stop gap?I know promoting from within is risky but at the same time it is very exciting and who knows the enthusiasm that the club trained player will show might rub off on the other players as well. After all this is a transitional season according to Jose.

I must have missed something, who's available for that price?

Well from the EPL alone, I'd much rather someone like Schnielderline, Cabaye, Morrison..etc off the top of my head. All would not go for more than the rumored 18m and all would be dying to make a switch to a team like Chelsea.

- It's rumoured to be closer to £15M which is a fair value for someone who will play quite a fit.

- We don't know if he can or can't play in a double pivot position here.

- We certainly don't know if there are better options available at similar price range.

The Guazette who are the ones reporting this story say 15m plus bonuses = 18m. And again, this is my opinion from watching Guarin and I don't think he can play in a pivot and if memory serves he even played in a 4-3-3 with Porto so he hasn't played in this role before.

That is what I really want to happen. Them or maybe even RLC. But I don't think the club will do it, cause we clearly never had the balls to. Maybe in the next few games but one can only hope for it.

An 18m stop-gap? Plus, the last stop-gap we got isn't really working too well right now. If a stop-gap is what we want, give Chalobah or Josh a chance. Or even Ake who has already fllled in as a stop gap last season and did pretty well.

For starters I would leave the midfield problem for the summer when True world class players are available and promote someone into the side for a squad role till then. However if we must sign a midfielder then I would want someone with playmaking ability like Rakitic.

Cabaye has been quoted at about £20 million and is also wanted by PSG - enjoy a bidding war with them.

This is leaving the problem until summer. Unfortunately we have a few matches between now and then.

We need a midfielder and this guy could do a job for what is a relatively low fee. He's also free to play in the CL and probably close to his true market value and not the January panic-price.

i replied the same to Mufassir as well, thats what I want to happen but will the club to do that? Do they have plans to? If they don't then get him to keep ourselves safe until summer.

But that's it. How "safe" will Freddy Guarin make us? What does he offer that is better than the other options we have. To me the difference is the same as between having Torres and Ba or Torres, Ba and Eto'o i.e. not much at all.

Cabaye is the best player on that list, and he's not exactly "available"

Guarin is not the only decent CM in Europe, but when you start taking into account how much players would actually cost (fee + wages) whether he's cup-tied or not, and how they would fit into this team, there's not many names that come to mind.

Don't people take him as a backup to Ramires? If Rami plays every game, then he'll burn out. If Guarin can play his role, then I'll take him.

I believe we can get by with a midfield of Ramires,Lampard,Mikel,Chalobah and Essien till the end of the season without shelling out 15m.

I don't share that optimism. Guarin on loan would have been perfect tbh but I wouldn't mind a transfer because Essien is surely leaving in the summer and Lampard is ageing. Guarin could be useful for another year atleast

Pretty random question btw, anyone know how's his English?
