Fernando Torres

He got booked to his reaction after the "trip", if he had decided to walk away instead of getting into the whole incident and Vertongen's face he would not have gotten a yellow, he was lucky not to get red carded at that point for his stupidity the ref didn't see the scratch obviously. He booked him for making something out of nothing.

Showed Mourinho was wrong to bench him. That red was possible today was always likely given how he was playing so Mourinho should have subbed him.

torres is a confidence player. for the first time in 2 and a half years, he has shown the confidence to take on defenders and actually go past them. and then u say jose should have subbed him off? torres would have come right to square one.

there are always players on yellow but you dont take them off unnecessarily. torres was the BEST PLAYER ON THE PITCH in the 2nd half. to take him off would have been stupid. he dint do anything violent after the 1st yellow. it was a 50-50 air ball, which torres had every right to go for. infact i would have been worried if he had not. he dint lead with his elbow or tug at jan's shirt or kill him or anything. he just went for the ball. the red was a poor decision but to sub him off would have been worse for him. also i am sure, like in the post-match conference, the first thing that mou would have said to him would have been "this is the torres i wanna see every match"

It is like every time Torres plays well in the league he has to mess it up someway or another.. Against United when we lost 3-1 where he scores a brilliant chip over DDG, he then goes on to miss an open goal. Against Swansea when we beat them 4-1 a couple of seasons ago he scores a brilliant goal after a brilliant dink over the top from Mata and then gets sent off and yesterday was playing excellently and then once again gets sent off facepalm.gif

More of the same Torres please without the altercations with other players and one thing I hope to see in the league soon from you, goals :)

Looking at the incident again on MOTD, it look as if Torres didn't actually clip Vertonghen. More like a dive from him.

Vertongen went down when he thought that the ball had got away from him and even if Fernando did touch him, he over exaggerated.

Great game but fuck me if scratching a player isn't embarrassing. Chelsea player or not that shit is just unacceptable, but it was nice to see some passion and confidence from the guy. He needs to maintain and not let it be just another false dawn.

He shouldn't have done what he did when he raked his hand across Vertonghen's face, but Torres at his best at Liverpool was a petulant bastard. Sarcastically clapping the referee and getting all fired up like that is another glimpse that the old Torres is in there, somewhere. We just don't see enough of him. I still maintain that if he can put in the sort of all-round performances he has in his last three starts (Bayern, Swindon and of course yesterday), he is the best option we have up top right now. It's early days with Eto'o but we have to be realistic with him - whilst he adjusts to life in London and the pace of English football, is Sammy going to be able to compete with these performances by Nando? I don't think he can, being brutally honest. I hope I am proved wrong, because two forwards playing decent football means better competition - and that's the only way our striking options will improve.

Do you mind explaining what part you dont agree with? A very good performance is what the likes of Cavani, Messi, Ronaldo, Zlatan etc usually perform. This was, like I said, a standard top-striker performance. We're just not used to see it from Torres whats why we go like "WOW OMG".

He gets enough shit, because 95% of the time he IS shit. Its not undeserved criticism he gets.

When it comes to Nando I am very biased but the reason we paid 50 million pounds for Fernando wasn't just for the goals.. heck then we would have just signed a poacher. Nando isn't a poacher.. when he was in form don't think there was a striker better than him at that time. He just flew past players like they weren't even there.. VERY similar to his game against Spurs. All bias aside.. this was his best performance in a blue shirt definitely.. but Cavani and Zlatan wish getting past defenders like that.. sure they will get wonder goals but the way he just was running at defenders yesterday was absurd. So quick, direct, that's the Torres of old.. I'm not going to say "OH HE'S BACK" etc.. because I personally thought he lost a lot of pace but out of nowhere he caused so much havoc for the Spurs defence throughout the second half. As Mourinho said, "That's the Torres I want to see for the rest of the season" : http://www.marca.com/2013/09/28/en/football/international_football/1380385819.html
