Fernando Torres

I don't understand all the fuss, by the forum reaction you would think he missed two sitters for Chelsea in the Championship league. I couldn't give a shit what he does for Spain, and how many opportunities he misses.

You think that his games with spain don't have an impact for the season with chelsea?! come on!

It's not like I care for Spain (I was cheering for Italy) but isn't it pretty obvious why people care about poor performances from their own teams players? Especially with Torres who's one big question mark, seeing him keeping up missing big chances is not a good sign, at all.

Buffon played the first opportunity brilliantly, second one he should've passed to Navas. He should've done better, but once he came on Spain looked a lot more dangerous.

People wants to point out how he should've scored rightfully so, but also give him credit for his movement to be put in those opportunities.

Anyway Torres has for most his career sucked for Spain that is not news, Fernando Hierro has more goals then him and he was a CB. lol

No i don't think what a player does internationally has any correlation what he does for his club.

RVP had a horrid game last night, it changes nothing for him and what he does for Arsenal or whatever club he plays for next season.

I am not a Torres supporter by any mean, i would like to see him sold tbh. But i also hate knee jerking, most here are more venting their frustration over the past 15 months with Chelsea then looking at today's game objectively.

Torres should've scored, yes, but the worst part about this is he'll get all the press when RVP and Balotelli have bottled much better chances.

Add to that Iniesta, Silva and Huntelaar's doings and you've got a pretty good situation, but whatever. It's over. Hope he scores in the next one.

Buffon did do well. But he was only allowed to do well because of Fernandos bad touch. He came on when the match was really opening up and everyone were getting tired, managed to get through to some chances and still fuck up like he has been doing for 1 ½ year here, not sure how I can spin that positively. Saying Torres has always sucked for Spain is just wrong, bringing in Hierro (who was well known for his many many goals) won't change that.

People keeps defending Torres and attacking anyone who questions his performances, all while the forum uses any opportunity to jump on really any other player when they have a bad game.

Of course it doesn't. He has been class all season. Torres hasn't shown anything really for the last 1 ½ year.

You are completely discrediting him for the good he did in the 20minutes, and crediting the other team being tired and the game was already opening up. Yeah you are not being objective, the positive is he put himself in those opportunists and him being slated for the missed opportunity is fair.

Anyone who has followed the Spain NT knows, since VDB has taken over he hasn't performed even for his standard. He has never been the player he was for Alti Madrid and Liverpool. Fernando Hierro was a great player, but are you trying to tell me a striker with more more appearances shouldn't have more goals then a CB?

You keep bringing up the last 1 1/2 years that is a irrelevant to me, i have seen every Chelsea game i know how poor he has been. But we are discussing today's game.

I do agree the Torres fanboys on this forum are ridiculous.

He gets 90% of fans making up excuses for him.

He gets undying support due to crap performances. Kalou, Malouda and Bosingwa have got slated for much less.

He got a banner at The Bridge before he even kicked a ball, Drogba who has won us numerous trophies single handedly hasn't even got one yet

Lampard's goal against Sunderland got groaned at by the MHL people like the goal was disallowed because it looked like from that side Torres scored it off the crossbar.

He cost us £100m (contract and transfer), so that is just under £10m a goal, we should be getting better.

Torres has suffered from many things at Chelsea but lack of support is not even close to being one of them, OTT support more like.

This is exactly it. Torres has been one of the worst players at Chelsea since he's been with us. He's been one of the worst strikers in the Premiership. He has been basically useless and that is not hyperbole. Jose Bosingwa was more integral to Chelsea's success than Fernando Torres has been. Yet, all he seems to get from many supporters is excuses or discussions of how he is actually secretly playing really well. Lampard and Cole both had a poor run of games this season and people said "they're done, get rid of them". Lampard and Cole were great for us this overall year and are both Chelsea legends (Lampard has an argument for being the greatest Chelsea player ever). Mikel had a poor few games. Let's get rid of him! Yet, the same people who talk about getting rid of good or even great players for having a few bad games, want to hold on to Torres and build a squad around him despite a year and a half of uselessness.

Kalou got incredible stick on Chelsea forums and he was much better than Torres. (Better scoring rate, better defensively, never complained) Hell, Malouda led us in goals two seasons ago and fans hate him. Fans hate Sturridge and he led us in goals in the Premiership. But Torres? He didn't score for 29 games in a row for crying out loud. That's epically awful. Doesn't matter. People still sing his name. They talk about him as if he's a great player. It's as if there are Torres fans and he matters more to them than Chelsea. The Lampard goal that came off the bar is a perfect example of this. These people want to set-up an entire squad just for the benefit of Torres. We have to build a system around Torres. We have to buy players that will help Torres succeed. Torres Torres Torres. It's bordering on insanity.

I can see, all of you will praise him , and will be saying he's best striker and etc after he scores lot of goals for us ;) and honestly I hope he will shut up all of you with goal of course....he's been bad for us since joining, but he always show desire to play and help the team....so I give him chance till end of the next season...if he fail then sell him of course....

We can afford to risk making Torres main forward this season because in the Roman era we have never really had an fully in form forward bar a couple of season's from Drogba (when i mean in form i mean to the extent Henry was season after season for Arsenal or RVN for United).

Our major strength in the Roman era has been goals all over the pitch, even our defenders chip in with more than the average.

Hopefully next season Hazard will offer 10-15 goals, same with Danny and Mata, likewise Hulk if he joins, hopefully Marin can give us 7-10, Lampard 10, Ramires 10, Luiz, Terry, Cahill and Ivan 3-5 each, if Malouda stays hopefully he can get about 5.

If they all chip in with something similar to that amount that is 70-95 goals before Torres is even brought into the equation, so making Torres main forward won't be as risky as say if Arsenal or to a lesser extent United done it because the trick at Chelsea is everyone is a striker (so to speak), so if Torres expects special service to be directed straight to him all the time he will be in for a shock.

Torres will most likely start. Spain were a much better team when he was on the pitch.

Spain were a much better team with a target, not necessarily with Torres. The look of Del Bosque after Torres missed his second/third chance said it all for me. I will be surprised if Torres starts a match for Spain this tourney.

I dont think FT was the main reason for the result today, but face it...he miss 3 clearly chances. In the third one he could pass the ball to Navas and kill the game...in the first one i think, well, Buffon, althouth he could react faster.
