Sheva. 5,373
I remember some people being against us signing Falcao, because he was playing in the Portuguese league, look how he's done at Atletico? close to 40 goals this season.Oh yeah, la liga is shit too right? that would explain Aguero scoring more in the PL than he did over there? Kojo 4,676
Does that mean I am given a spot in your trophy cabinet of beloved posters, alongside Henri and BlueLyon? Or are you trolling? capriccioso 2,545
Irrelevant in your case when the discussion in sending a hasbeen to those leagues (Portugal, Nether) and they will score loads.Shall i bring up Ronaldo?Nani?Queresma?Carvalho?Falcao?Irrelevant argument to support your claim in how sending a player like Heskey (LMAO) and he will perform betterHeskey will be a goal every other game player in those countries.Carvalho is a defender, as I have already stated before, defenders are a different kettle of fish. If there is a defender that stands out in Portugal, he is certain to be world class. To even look competent when you're surrounded by a million Bosingwa's is an achievement.Quaresma? Why thank you for adding another example of players who can't hack it once they leave.Nani and Ronaldo? Teenagers when they left. 5 more years in Portugal and they may have given Eusebio's scoring records a run for their money.Falcao? While he has still been excellent at Atletico Madrid, his numbers have declined from his Portugal days.Once again, please read my post before jumping to conclusions. I never said Heskey will be better than Hulk in Portugal. I said he would be a far better player in Portugal than he has been in England.
BlueLyon 9,359
It doesnt matter where you play, if you are class, you will rock any league. Hulk is great and will give us boost in attack, if Hulk wont, I guess there is no better guarantee our next winger will be good. Besides there are not many top class wingers out there linked with us and in fact Hulk is our only possible big class winger we can get. He is fantastic winger who plays good on big matches. And he is just about to join us.

But I doubt he will score more goals, maybe more assists but not more goals, unless whole our team, consisted of great players will put him level higher. I never said Heskey will be better than Hulk in Portugal. I said he would be a far better player in Portugal than he has been in England.First, Who claimed Heskey would be better than Hulk if went to Portugal? And Defenders who were hyped up in Portugal, Carvahlo, Coentrao, Ferreria, Silva, etc, they were labeled world class in Portugal. Those mentioned, are they not still World Class after their departure? If anything, their prestige got higher.Falcao is a prime example of his his talent just emerged in his first year in La LigaEverything stated still does not in the slightest support your argument in how sending a mediocre player to those leagues will make them perform better. capriccioso 2,545
25-30% discount on his current numbers is likely what we'll get.57 and 42 in 95, was it? We'll probably get around 40 goals and 30 assists in 100 appearances from him. While that is a good return, is it worth 36 million?

Average players are brilliant in Portugal. Once they leave they perform significantly worse. What reason is there for it not to work the other way? Henrique 9,133
If we do indeed sign him, anyone else have a feeling Sturridge will leave? Because I certainly do.I think he is leaving regardless Hulk coming or not. It was really strange how RDM dropped the guy. Hulk is a winger, Sturridge already said he doesnt want to play in such position.

Strike 7,527
They are initially the 'big 3', as we have 'the big 4'now the premier league has 6-7 teams that could challenge for the title. upon that teams like norwich, swansea are making the whole of mid-table progress while the relegation candidates have shown that even they can beat the big boys. u just dont see that throughout all the teams in portugal and that's why i feel u cant judge strikers just on stats from the portuguese league
Strike 7,527
Most of the players who have come to us from the Portuguese league in recent years have succeeded at Chelsea and on the other hand Torres who had been banging goals in the Premier League for many years prior to his move has done fuck all so I fail to see your point. Of course he probably wouldn't be able to keep up with his stats at Porto but very few people on Earth could...Torres was cuckoo before joining chelsea tbf

Just like when the big two Spanish clubs come to visit, teams outside Porto, Sporting CP, Benfica and Braga roll over and accept that they're going to lose 4-0 and don't even bother making a fight of it. With that into account, I say except in extreme cases, the general rule of thumb for any attacking statistic from the Portuguese league is a discount of 30-40% to give us a more realistic amount of rough knowledge from which we deduce our expectations of a player. It was a improvement, because in last 7 or 8 years it was only 2 teams (Chelsea or Arsenal and then Chelsea or Manchester), and in some seasons it was a one horse race.Liverpool never really challenged for the trophy in past years, even in 2008/2009 season only a fool would believe they could really win it, and after 2004/2005 season Arsenal never challeged for it.I dont know how you came with 7 clubs, because Newcastle, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool just can't callenger for the trophy.
