Spurs are still struggling to agree with madrid and will not want to keep modric again when he clearly wants to leave. Avb needs a striker and a modric replacement which we would provide them with, not to mention two players who were clearly favourites of his last season.

Meireles cost £12m and made significant contributions to our team last season like it or not - he is still worth in the region of £10m. Sturridge would be valued at around £15m. I would like to keep sturridge but he is in the final year of his contract remember!

Both would jump at the chance to join a manager who clearly likes them considering they have had less important roles at chelsea since he left.

Spurs have already been heavily linked with both so why shouldn't we test their resolve. That deal will be better than the £23.5m real madrid have apparently bid.

I'm not stupid, it isn't likely but i'm going on basis of media valuations of players, etc like everyone is with hulk and cavani. My point is mainly we could bolster our squad with 3-4 players for such money!

And somebody bitching about this isn't football manager, its real life? We are discussing another big money buy having already spent over £60m ffs. Chelsea don't operate in similar brackets to other clubs!

ya chelsea can try but i doubt they would let their best player move to another london team. but i think avb will buy moutinho or hulk for a big sum. its always like that with ex porto managers.

I agree that it is doubtful but it is something that has been speculated in the media. I think AVB would take it but levy may not.

However if real madrid pulled out spurs have no other options besides keeping a player who seems prepared to refuse to play.

My whole original point though was we could spend the same money that hulk or cavani would cost to solve more than one area of our squad.

Hulk and Cavani will both cost between £30-40m for just one position.

With that money we could realistically be looking at buying -

Llorente £18m

Moses £9m

Azpilicueta £8m

Modric £5m + meireles + sturridge

£40m spent and a strong squad which would only need small tweaking over the next 2-3 years. I would rather go that route then just hulk or cavani for the same price!

I dont have enough of these :fainthv9: :fainthv9: :fainthv9: :fainthv9: :fainthv9: :fainthv9: :fainthv9:

hmm ok. but if you put hulk playing on torres position he will do nothing. he cant score as pure striker on the portuguese league he wont on epl too. he needs space to run on the right wing to come in the middle and shoot with his left foot. thats what he does best.

And that is what we would use him for, obviousley. Whats the problem?

Explain then. The top 3 are attainable, realistic targets. The modric one is less likely but it has been speculated that we're still interested and spurs are looking at meireles and sturridge, so i've explained my reasoning. If madrid pull out spurs are in a very difficult position because i don't think they can keep modric after everything that has happened.

I expected more from somebody on this forum who's views i respect.

If Madrid were to pull out of the Modric race, I guarantee that ManUtd would be the first club in for him. As angry as it would make me to see him there, I think Roman has given up even trying to negotiate with Levy.

A real shame, as he'd take Chelsea to a new level.

As for Hulk, this saga is getting nearly unbearable. If we are genuinely interested still, the only way I see him signing is at the very last minute. Not gonna believe any twitter rumors about him "nearly signing" until it's official.

I think it's time we moved on from Hulk. The only reason most the people on here want him is because they Liked the Avengers movie and want a jersey with "Hulk" on the back..

I didn't really like the new avengers movie that much, though scarlet johannson was in leather so.... :dunno: He would be a useful addition to our team, not worth the 40 mil figure that seems to be being spread around but nothing we can do. In term of high quality RW'ers that are available whose main position is there is fairly limited which is why it would seem as if he is our main target since before we signed Hazard and oscar... Moses is more than useful though is seen as a squad player, and several other players are strikers who can play there which i suppose isn't ideal... The fact he can be a backup striker is something that is just a little extra adding a little more depth to the team though as it is clear to everyone he doesn't do it a lot and hasn't shown much in the limited time , however it doesn't mean he cant be useful there with a bit more training etc. Are there better options out there? Yes... Are they realistic? No. Also the fact he has publicly decalred he wants to leave and wouldn't mind coming here is a big step in the right direction. As i said earlier i am not too fussed either way as he does offer us a lot or we could try Hazard at RW again and move Mata to the left which seems less likely. Hulk is a good name though and will sell a lot of shirts, still prefer lampard on mine though... :)

chelsea doeasnt need hulk. hulk is a 0 playing as a lone forward or in the middle. he is very good playing on the wings and i dont think thats what chelsea needs

On the contrary, that's exactly what we need on the right. I'm not convinced with Ramires/Mata on the wings and we need a proper right winger.

Yes i really wanted hulk at the start of the summer but having splashed out on hazard, moses makes more sense.

A fraction of hulks transfer fee and wages, 5 years younger with massive potential and resale value, and premier league experience.

What you suggested is absolutely unlikely to happen, Spurs won't take 5m, it's not like Meireles and Sturridge are that good.

A more likely scenario is 25m + one of the two, at least a better deal than what Madrid are offering.

Wouldn't surprise me if we got both, but IMO we should loan Moses back to Wigan for more experience unless we offload Malouda and Benayoun together.

Love how the latest rumor swirling around twitter is that Hulk has booked a flight to London for his medical.

The hell would someone possibly know that? And people believe it.

Neither are very good in your opinion - however both are clearly trusted and liked by AVB. If it was his call i think he would take a deal for two players he knows well and a few million for a player who doesn't want to be there.

The problem is levy but if madrid pull out, spurs have a big decision to make.

On topic i don't see us buying hulk personally. Porto don't seem like budging.

sorry but the endless transfer speculation eventually does that to me ... No offence intended.

Not sure United have the cash, they have spent a fair whack already given the constraints the Glazers debt loading has placed on them.

But if they scraped the cash together they could have a very scary looking squad. Not sure how they would line up though given the other signings this summer
