Schweinsteiger's (supposed) Nazi salute after Bayern's win over Real

Any football historians on here?.. how was Bayern Munich's relationship with the Nazi's...

How on earth is that the Nazi salute? The way his hand is cocked shows that he is doing the 'Ballin' action which entails a person acting like they are shooting a Basketball. It is a very common celebration in sports.

quick answer from wikipedia:

The advent of Nazism put an abrupt end to Bayern's development. The president and the coach, both of whom were Jewish, left the country. Many others in the club were also purged. Bayern was taunted as the "Jew's club" and as a semi-professional club Bayern was also affected by the ruling that football players had to be full amateurs again. In the following years Bayern could not sustain its role of contender for the national title, achieving mid-table results in its regional league instead

far from nazi if you ask me.

How will Essien start?

DM's will be Mikel and Lampard that is a certainty

RDM could go with 4-3-3 with Mikel, Lampard and Essien in midfield and deploying Mata and Kalou out wide but that will just negate the strengths of the former and would leave us expose defensively.

RDM has been using the 4231 ever since his arrival, doubt he will change it in the biggest game in our history.

Not saying he will but it is an option and he did go with 4-3-3 against Barcelona over the two legs.

Here's a decent article from Vital Chelsea:

http://www.chelsea.v...le.asp?a=529182

To save some time, here were the more salient points:

  • Lewandowksi rogered Bayern's defence right up the backdoor, and he isn't anywhere near as good at doing that as Drogba, who can give even the very best a torrid time.
  • Tymoschuk and van Buyten are slow as tug boats- Torres, Sturridge, Kalou, Mata and even Drogba should be able to run rings round them.
  • Harassing the midfield can limit the touches on the ball for Robbery. They will come deep to get the ball where they'll be far less effective.
  • Mario Gomez proved to the world yet again that he is the most overrated footballer of his generation. The last

I made up the last point.T It was not part of the article.

Mikel, Lampard and Meireles played in a midfield 3 in the first game and almost a flat one too with Ramires & Mata tucking in narrow from the wide areas. Did that for the second leg as well.
