Hutcho 8,443
I think lampards experience is very useful but the issue is fitting him into this system. We all saw the lampard and mikel partnership did not work close to what the rambo mikel partnership did. Lamps playing off the striker is also something i am not too sure about, in the sense i would rather someone like mata or oscar be in there. But that is where i would put him. He still has the legs and can cover the ground, also could be pretty useful with his shooting considering torres is likely to be misfiring as always.IDEA: LAMPS UPFRONT. As always though i will never complain if lampy is in our team, as long as it doesn't result in Rambo on the RW again. Magic Lamps
DYC. 7,542
I think these last few weeks has taught us a lesson. We still need Frank's experience in the matchday squad's.Definitely. It's not even about Lamps necessarily starting games but also having him on the bench to add firepower to the team when needed, which has been the case in pretty much every game he's been out for. Or even when we're struggling a bit and need to hold on to a lead, bringing Lamps on with his experience is a very useful move. And I'd personally like to see him play in the centre attacking midfielder role. I know he didn't do well in the role at the top of the diamond under Ancelotti, the role never suited him anyway, but this is completely different. In this set-up he's not the playmaker as he has others around him to help in that department. While he has constant support around him (the other two attacking midfielders and the man up front) so he won't have to hold on the ball for too long. He can also stay close to the forward, almost as a second striker, making runs and try for goal. He'd give us a different option compared to Oscar's style. Reddish-Blue 2,504
Would love to see Lampsy retire at Chelsea and we need him in midfield.Without JT or Lamps, we lack a leader on the pitch...no offence to Cech but I'd prefer our captain to be an outfield player. OneMoSalah 8,886
He doesn't have a place in the current team for a reason. Imo hes far too slow to be involved in a team that want to keep the ball and move it around at a high tempo. In my eyes, that's the honest truth. Yes hes been injured but still before that he didn't play 90 minutes every week. If we want to move on as a club, Lamps will have to go, as will Cech, Cole and JT eventually to complete the cycle and then we will start again with a new backbone including a few of these guys: Hazard, Mata, Bertrand, Ramires, Mikel, De Bruyne, Luiz, Courtois, Moses etc. If LA Galaxy want him and he wants to continue playing regular football, he should consider the move. Hes a Chelsea legend and always will be but eventually he will leave/retire.

Wonder why Arsenal does not win titles? They got the talent but they do not have the characters to carry them in the crucial situations. We simply need leaders like Terry, Lamps, Cech not only for footballing reasons. If we'd get rid of old players too early and no one there to step in as leaders, we are fucked. There many talented teams but not so many have the guys that win you titles. I think lampards experience is very useful but the issue is fitting him into this system. Lamps used to be our best midfielder AND striker in one person for years. His finishing is still worldclass. he may not hit the long rangers that often now but also this season for England and for Chelsea he has proven that his finishing ability within 20 yards is still enormous. Don't know a single player who is that efficient in front of goal. Face it - he can't do any worse than Studge or Torres? His link up play has always been good since he also is a midfielder he won't have problems here and he does not really need to be fast, as in most games the opponent does not give us the space to counter. Actually he is not that slow without the ball either. Other possibility is his natural position in a 4-3-3, which will figuere again this season. In recent weeks we lacked leadership, we lacked finishing. That is what Lamps offers. He is slow on the ball, under AVB whenever we got the ball fizzing about he'd stop take about 50 touches and then pass it. Hes a efficient player in front of goal yes but we have got a new system of playing and a new philosophy. He doesn't suit the formation too well because he can't play as a floating number 10 or as a number 6.

Lamps put in outstanding performances against napoli (h), Liverpool, both barca games and Bayern. Nothing like slow on the ball there. Most notably he raped Mascherano, Henderson adn Messi before putting in inch-perfect passes leading to the goals. he knows when to up his game, his ability to step up in big-games and crunch time is immense. You can't turn that down unless u want to become Arsenal. super_frank8 and chelseathebest
