Maniatis is consistently among the best of the team. He just finished a very good season at Olympiakos. He is good as defensive midfielder and can play right back also. This way he can help the right side effectively in a defence oriented system (like Greece's). The problem with our players is that most of them will do the job in the system we play, but they lack creativity and pace. To simplify, you can expect a MIkel type of performance from him.

I saw him pass the ball quickly though, one or two touches, playing with his head up more than Obi Mikel. I think he's better than Mikel, but not seen him enough.

Soo....will he be the more defensive? While Yaya and Fernandinho move forward a bit.? Guess depth is important.

Both. Fernando is a big upgrade on Javi Garcia so City have added depth and quality to their midfield. Won't miss Yaya or Fernandinho as much if they get injured or suspended and it gives MP a lot of tactical flexibility.

Apparently:

Yaya

Fernandinho - Fernando

Fernando plays much better in a single pivot... If he's a starter, I'd say:

Fernando

Fernandinho--Yaya

But I don't see Pellegrini dropping his number 10/second striker for it, especially when they get a better CB to pair up with Kompany. Maybe in matches where they need a little more defense he'll go with this trio.

Yeah, Fernando adds a lot of tactical flexibility for Pellegrini. In the bigger games I can see him going for that trio in midfield.

I think the match yesterday was an odd one. Ivory Coast were really really poor imo. They left us with tremendous amount of space to work. If you watch the match vs Columbia you will see the flaws clearly. But yeah compared to the rest of the team his pace is above team average. Not like Samaras for example.

As far as compared to Mikel, they are not identical and he might be slightly better at that department (as part of his FB qualities), but i can imagine him playing more like a Mikel than a Matic type of player in a PL team.

I thought he looked very good in the Colombia match. Hellas' possession in the first half revolved around him for at least 25 minutes. The problem was that the team is just not good enough. It's strange that Samaras starts for Greece.

^ no thats not the reason. the reason is, that they want the clause to be activated. United offered them directly the amount of the clause, but the clause can only be activated by the player himself. but if he does so, tax income will be rated and United will have to pay even more money. so its a Tax issue. Bilbao doesnt want to sell anybody, so they dont accept offers. if the Player himself deposits his clause, they cant do anything about it. so its more of a political/standing case than a money case.

Roma seem to be open to selling Benatia for around €30 - €35m. That is much more reasonable, and I am sure someone in the PL will get him.
