blue out west 27 Posted September 16, 2011 Share Posted September 16, 2011 So AVB has 4 midfielders to select for 3 positions - if we do play a 4.3.3. of course - Ramires, Meireles, Mikel and Lampard.I would like to see the first 3 start, with Lamps coming off the bench!Lamps is the best passer, shooter, and is the smartest of the 4. He's like a manager on the field too, keeps the side in good shape and coordinates play with and without the ball in ways that the other 3 can't. I don't think Meireles, Ramires, Mikel mid would be weak but its not as good without Lamps. If he gets tired he can be subbed off and ramires or meireles can be brought on. steve5221 91 Posted September 16, 2011 Share Posted September 16, 2011 I to think lampard should play this game at the expense of Mikel......I base this purely on the fact that it is at old Trafford. if you look at previous seasons of our games up there, the ref always gives fouls against Mikel that would not be given at the bridge....this inevitabely leads to yellow and red cards for him...I think a midfeild 3 of Mierlies, Ramires and Lampard is good for this game...Ramires does the job of 2 players purely on his running and offers options both going forward and in the tackle. Mierlies should start in the holding role, starting attacks with his range of passing, he can come into the game later on - like he did providing the pass for Sturidges goal v Sunderland. Lampard has good experience of these games and he is physical and will ensure we wont be muscled out in midfield in Mikels absense, he also has good shooting ability and the eye for a pass..Although he slows the tempo of our play down he is required for this game. Or the smugness of the Man U fans 'the title is our no one will beat us now;...yada yada and the way the press go on heck they've got their story ready for Monday a Chels win would fuck that right up.Need to concentrate!! Superblue 6,372 Posted September 16, 2011 Share Posted September 16, 2011 For how much I love David Luiz, we cannot afford to play him at centre back at Old Trafford, he will walk a tightrope all game.However, we would then lose his energy and creative ability on the ball, I would love to see him play the holding midfielder role, but without prior experience is this too big a risk at Old Trafford. The only thing I'm thinking though is whether the best way to take United down is to spring a surprise on them. Fergie has been doing it for years.What could even be done is have our holding midfielder man mark Rooney, who will likely drop deep a lot anyway. There was only 1 challenge where inexperience showed. That tackle which he did get booked for, was a challenge any defender would make. Had he let that player run through, he would've been through on goal! Ivanovic, Terry or Alex would've done the same thing afaik. He was one of the big reasons we started hitting form again in the second half of last season.However I just think against the very best teams and players it's a risk as the last line of defence, and United at Old Trafford I just worry he will be walking a tightrope on every tackle and decision made. Need to keep this game tight for 60 mins - put Luiz on the bench, we could introduce him at some stage...his problem is he just can't resist not standing the attacker up, he dives in 80% of the time... Don't ask me why, but he has the ability and his work ethic is so much better than I saw at Liverpool, he just desperately needs a goal and I'm sure a glut more will be round the corner.I know United have been very impressive this season but they haven't played anyone near our level, I just think Fergie may be more cagey and play some experience such as Ferdinand, Carrick, Fletcher, etc and that might well play into our hands. He's a very solid defender (not midfielder) than people give him credit for. Of course he's made a couple of school boy errors in games he's played, but he hasn't even played that many games yet.
