Would be happy to see him sold if it means we are going to sign a defensive midfielder in January, although we shouldve signed one already as it is now one of the weaker areas in our side along with upfront.

Letting Essien go to Real Madrid on loan was the bad decision, why give them more experience and strength in depth? Seems even stranger now Merieles could be off. Still if we use Ramires in the 'double pivot' over Lampard a Mikel-Ramires partnership with Romeu and Lampard as backup isn't too weak. Madrid only have 3-4 players for their 2 of the 4-2-3-1; and we have the players now to not have to use Ramires as a right winger.

We wouldn't really be thin. Romeu, Mikel, Lampard, Oscar, Ramires can all play in that area, we also have several reserve team players that could fill in if it is an emergency. If we sign a free agent as well we will be sorted in that area.

I think everyone is panicking way too much on this. We will have five players that can play in these two positions, with several youth team players who could do a job in an emergency. Don't forget we still have Malouda who played there under AVB so he can play there too.

People need to calm down and look at this rationally. If we are selling Meireles then it's probably a decent price. We are also probably planning to start using Ramires in the pivots and use Romeu more too. Further more it may mean we are planning to use Oscar in there (we may even soon switch to 4-3-3). So that's 5 players for 2 spots until January.

In January we may buy a CM/DM. If not we will continue on with what we have. Then next season we may again try to buy a player or at long last start incorporating Josh McEachran. I would prefer to sell Meireles next summer or January if we've replaced him adequately but the club surely knows what they're doing. They must have a rough plan to make do with what we have until January or next summer. People are forgetting this is a transition stage and we are still building our new team. That will mean quite a few departures. I do agree with you guys about the questionable timing of the proposed sale but let's not go batshit crazy just yet.
