Juan Mata

Yes he does need to prove to Jose he can do it. Jose wants a certain make up from a player, that being one that works back, works incredibly hard and also operates at both ends of the field in a way he wants. This isn't Juan Mata FC, it's Chelsea FC with one of the greatest managers around in charge and people are questioning Jose and saying things like "He's clueless" etc, please listen to what Jose is saying when he address's questions about Juan Mata, it really isn't difficult.

Oscar right now is nigh on the perfect player, he operates up and down the field, tracking back, going forward, creating chances and scoring goals, that's a perfect player for me and it looks like Jose agrees. In all this I am not saying Mata is shite as most of you will probably jump on the band wagon and say, just look at my profile etc I love the bloke, but let's look at the big picture, firstly what Jose wants and secondly at what Mata is up against in terms of Oscar and what he has to offer.

I've bitten my tongue on this for days after reading this thread and come to one opinion that people do not want to know what Jose wants and also are so blinded by past achievements of Mata that he can do no wrong. Mata was sublime last two seasons, two seasons yes, but now we have a different manager that wants a different system and certain players to change and adapt. Nobody's place is guaranteed right now, possibly only Oscar's, this team is being steered by a new sailor, if the crew on board aren't ready to work the crew will be thrown over board.

Either adapt to what he wants, fight for the place because it wont be handed on a plate to you.

One more time. Mata needs to prove shit! Mata is, was the best Chelsea player two years running.

The same thing applies to Luiz. Sell them both if Jose does not like their styles.

And he will sell them if they can't show their worth. Whenever a new manager comes in everyone has a duty to prove themselves just like Oscar, make that spot yours, it's a dog eat dog world and football is no different.

There are many clubs that will buy them, happily. No offensive minded player should become defensive specialist, maybe only Jose thinks so. Remember that.

Oscar has become both already, by showing both attacking and defending prowess, have you missed that?

In life you have to earn things, football is the same. I find it absolutely baffling you cannot see what Jose is saying. You are allowing your own selfishness to get in the way of the actual point.

I too find it " baffling " you cannot see Mata is not a defensive player. The end of discussion, see you.

It takes two to tango & you are stepping on my foot.

Jose is a man who driven referees from the game, poked people in the eye & belittled managers who have the misfortune not to be Jose, I read.

Of course, there is no doubt about his coaching ability. To mold Mata & Luiz into something which they are not is just plain stupid.

Ease up on the hyperbole bushman. Jose isn't trying to turn Mata into a defensive specialist, he's asking him to contribute defensively when we don't have the ball. I like Mata as much as anyone here, but I also trust Jose to build a great team. Something we haven't been for several seasons now. Without change how are we going to improve?

I wonder what has happen to Mata?

Has he lost his passion and hunger for the game?

Look at what happened to Silva? That guy was awesome the first two season and now is lost.

Sorry for Mata as he is a good guy but at the moment Oscar is far ahead the pecking order.

Never mind, these driblets about hyperbole....Mata is not ready to play defensively.

Are you his agent or something? He has already said he will do what Jose asks of him, there is only you shouting from the roof tops.

Let's take 2 great young offensive players - Götze und Reus. They had 48 and 47 tackles respectively last season. More in our team had only Azpi, Oscar and Ramires. (Mata - 14 tackles).

Mario and Marco - great attacking players, but they contribute in defensive game. No one ask for them, or for Juan, to become "defensive specialists", but they must to be involved in trying to take away the ball after losing it.
