Bir_CFC 3,455
Great article:http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/espnfcunited/id/11843?cc=5901We've heard time and again how selling to a direct Premier League competitor is a mistake. Other have argued how if Chelsea agree, they must not view United as a direct rival. But in this day and age, it's all nonsense. Let the market do its thing. Yes, if Mata goes to United and scores a hat-trick against Chelsea, the punditocracy will say, "Hah! What fools? See? You should never sell to a direct rival!"Funny, though, how if Chelsea take the proposed Mata fee (latest quote: 45 million euros, approximately $61 million) and use it to buy someone who then scores a hat-trick against United, nobody is going to rise up and make that same argument. Nobody is going to bleat: "See? They should have never bought a player from a direct rival! That was United's $61 million that ended up buying the guy who scored that hat-trick!"Players are commodities. So is cash. If the price is right, you sell or buy, no matter what idiocies the media comes up with.If United have 40M to spend, they will get better with or without Mata, I don't think it's about improving them because if they don't get Mata now they'll get Reus or some other world class players in the summer with that kind of money. His sale was inevitable, and I'm sure everyone would have preferred to leave it till the summer but with the world cup looming and Spain as one of the favourites, you can't really blame Mata for requesting a move away now as it doesn't look like he was going to be a key player here and most likely would not have made the WC squad. Can't blame him and won't blame him.The only negative is that we all love him and it'll just hurt to see him at United. It hurt to see him on the bench but slowly we accepted that and I'm sure if we re-invest the monies and get stronger and win the title, it'll def help us move on. LegenTerry 273
Selling a player who doesnt want to stay at the club for a decent amount to strengthen the team is good enough for me.Yea,and he doesn't want to stay because of who?Cahill maybe? He was our best fuck*** player and he turnd him in bench player. He is a great manager, one of my favorites but he makes mistakes and I got a felling that he acts too much like 'ou he was your best player last 2 seasons?belive me he is not good enough I know the best I'm Jose'. Martina 210
Oh give over. Yes, it is well known by now that José was saying that we wouldn't sell unless he asked for the move. By him just announcing that it put pressure on Mata to do it - so of course he was, he wants to play. You can't hold it against him. It was obvious José didn't want him, so he could've just sold him but he didn't. That's because he wanted to basically force Juan to ask for the move so he would have a nice excuse to point to. José doesn’t do excuses.

Popular Post! Azpinator 2,325 Posted January 22, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted January 22, 2014 The football club > Abramovich > Mourinho > any individual player. There is a hierarchy involved in the business that is modern football. Screw modern football. sdrcfc 461
If he goes, we better get Rooney or a striker equally as good at the club ASAP. I'd much rather 20m + Rooney than 40m for Mata. Bring in Shaw and some other world class talent as well. Disgraceful by a board. didierforever

Popular Post! Manuf 1,448 Posted January 22, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted January 22, 2014 I have yet to see a game where Oscar ran the whole show and won our games like Mata did for this move to be justified. Don't blame Mata, if you were in a situation where you would be heavily criticized for an aspect of the game you didn't need your whole life and then dropped in every possible occasion you would want to switch places too. Popular Post! The Mak 4,459 Posted January 22, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted January 22, 2014 Mata isn't a Mourinho-style player. Get over it. Players come and go. Mourinho put faith in Ozil over Kaka.He put faith in Lopez over Casillas. Now he's putting faith in Oscar over Mata. I'm gonna stand in his corner. You're failing to see my point.Sorry, I don't give a fuck about anything on that list. It's got nothing to do with styles of play or putting faith in one player over another. I don't want us selling to United, end of story. Simple as. I certainly don't think people should be happy over it either. They're crumbling as we speak but we've decided to bail them out so they have a foundation to challenge for future titles. It's about having dignity as a club by not selling to the bunch of wankers who refused to do business with us in the summer. We look like absolute mugs right now and, unless you can see into the future, I don't think people should be painting this as a Mourinho masterstroke until we get the full picture - which we won't get for months at least. zolayes, Gilvorak, t1mb3r and 2 others
