Jay17 35
My friend was saying this. I think selling Mata to Man Utd isnt a bad idea after all. Since we played Man Utd twice already, it aint going to affect us. With teams like Arsenal and City have yet to play United away, I think Mata would be very useful for Utd which may result in United win. This would enable us to overtake City and Arsenal. Just a thought. But how do we know Mata will be a hit at Utd? What if he goes and does a Torres?

MetsajCFC 1,255
I think some people misunderstand why so many of us are against this transfer.- Selling to Manchester United - why? It doesn't make sense after the Rooney saga. Even if the figure goes as high as £42m, then unless we spend in the next 9-10 days it won't benefit us in any way what so ever. So unless we either by some miracle do get Rooney or strengthen before THIS window shuts, it doesn't make sense. Chelsea isn't a club who has to sell just because that'd make 10 million profit, it's peanuts in this industry on this level.- The argument of Mata deserving game time - I'm sure there would be clubs interested in taking Mata on loan, for example Atletico Madrid.- The argument of we not having to play with United again in the league this season while Arsenal and Manchester City have games coming up - that's so short term thinking that it's embarrasing really, what about next season when United have re-built their squad in the summer, perhaps even swapped managers, hate to be in that position.- 433 tactic, what kept us from trying it even with Mata in the squad? It's not about Mata being sold, it's about the fact who we're doing business with and the timing of it. Little hope in me still that this really is our way of getting back to United for Rooney saga and we're just wasting their time and running down the clock for transfer window. Sidzeret 2,257
No offence but that's a bloody short-sighted view. He may help them get points off Arsenal and City or not this season. He's not going single handedly make every United player turn world class all of a sudden to turn those lots over. Moreover, he will improve United in the long term.It could come and bite us in the long run. As much I love Mata, I hate to see him do well at Manures. Popular Post! CHOULO19 24,332 Posted January 22, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted January 22, 2014 It's easy to dismiss the point of majority being not against selling as such but selling to ManUtd during January transfer window. We do not need the money, for a club like Chelsea the annual income does not involve selling world class players just to rake in 10mil extra. Juan's image and persona make him a very marketable person among not only Chelsea fans. If we can't use the funds to make a change right away, I can't see the point of intentionally becoming weaker. There are a lot of players leaving the club this summer, do we really need to go through the hassle to look for another decent player? 1. Juan was always going to leave because he never fit Jose's system. If it weren't now then in the summer. Hence we were always going to need to replace him in the summer. 2. This is our only chance to get anywhere near 40m for him because first united are panic buying and second his value will drop after the WC because he is not a starter for Spain. 3. We don't need the money, but getting 40m is excellent for the club and will change Jose's policy in the market in the summer because he will have 40m more to spend.4. Juan leaving does not really weaken us because he has been a squad player this season. Yes, it damages our squad depth, but for 40m, I'm pretty sure that the club and Jose would be thinking that it's worth it.5.Because there are a lot of players leaving in the summer and because we will need to replace them, then it makes perfect sense to sell Juan to the highest bidder. We need to reduce this season's deficit in the balance significantly and show a "positive trend" in order to be applicable for the Annex XI which is crucial for us complying with the FFP rules.6. Business wise thus is the perfect signing: A lot of money while not weakening our squad. We can complicate it all you want but what probably happened is that united came in with huge bid for Juan and of course the board had to consider it because you can't ignore a 40m bid for a squad player. Juan knows that he doesn't fit Jose's system and wants to play more so he asked the club to be allowed to leave. The club realizes that it is a great piece of business and has the respect accept Juan's wish. The Chels 2,502
Enjoy the last few days of Mata being in the 'Current Squad' subforum . Sigh whilst for large parts of this season it's been fun watching United throw up absolute dross at times, I'm going to find it difficult watching their games and seeing Mata thriving, reviving their top 4 hopes.
