Romelu Lukaku

I think if we buy a high profile striker then I can't see him. Being here for long... A fairly similar situation to the courtois and Cech thing. If we sign Falcao then we could loan him for another season but he still won't be the number 1 and would likely be behind ba or fighting for 2nd place which is harsh as I would love to see him come good for us. It will be more of a risk but would be the best for Lukaku if he wants to play for us. He is definitely doing very well though.

What a change since this difficult time with AVB who did not believe in him ...
with playing time he has now become again (lke he was atanderlecht)a constant threat for a defence. whether the team has ball possession or not. His first asset when he runs into spaces he is a tank. but he can be a great fixing point as well (example: his assist for brunt: 2v2 vs villa). even when we don't see him with the ball, he has 2+ defenders marking, watching him. His run on morrison's goal yesterday was a great example. He is enjoying this loan, and he gets along very well with Long, his only contender.. he is improving a lot ,on his placements , controls, skills, etc he doesn’t make useless runs anymore.etc ..he has growing confidence so I hope he stays another season there

Wankfest? Seems it's just Chelsea supporters appreciating a young guy doing well.

You say why not loan him for another year, but what does he get from it? He's shown he's capable of playing at this level and we need a striker. Why spend another £50 million on someone like Falcao when we have so many other needs elsewhere?

And talking about doing things right in our history?? We've neglected giving the youth a chance for the last decade and finally we're in a position where a kid has proven themselves in the Premier League, and we have a need in his position. The right thing to do would be to give him a chance.

But apparently in your mind, the right thing to do is to spend £50 million on a 27 year old striker because we've never done that before. :banghead:

LOOOOOOOL

Go back 5-6 pages to see the same people saying he is shit and he has zero first touch. Now read the same people posting his first touch gives them orgasm. The same with Falcao's thread; people wanting us to pay bullocks to him now thinking he will be a flop because of two bad games! This is ridiculous, you cant completely change your point of view because of one game. I dont care if one believes they are amazing or crap, but dont go posting complete different shit each game they play just to follow the trend and get likes...

Where have I said I want to spend 50mi? I am analysing the facts and trying to live in reality! Lukaku wont be used ahead of Torres (if he is not sold) or ahead of a big time striker (that has a huge chance of coming). I am not naive neither stupid to stand here and pretend we will have a team with Lukaku and Ba as strikers. It is not about whether I believe they are good enough or not, it is about me knowing that Roman wont settle with only the two of them...

I dont want Lukaku to be another Sturridge and you are all risking doing that only because you cant have a bit of patience!

Very well said, I think it's about time we started to appreciate our youngsters and giving them chances. It feels weird called Lukaku a youngster, just look at him and his preformances thus far. 10 goals is 23 outing for a 19-year old is amazing in my book. Can't wait to see him given a chance at the Bridge next season.

Quoting a classic "I dont aplaud it at all, opinions and brliefs change all the time. If they doesnt, it just means you are not evolving..." (just in case you dont remember, it was you today in Sparta Prague thread)

Nope, it is one thing to change your opinion based on facts you have experienced and learned and another to go back and forth only to follow the trend and increase your reputation.

Lukaku will have a run of poor formm (which everyone has and it is normal) and the exact same people will start jumping off his bandweagon again!

When a player has a bad game, people notice it and therefore give him a bit of stick. On the other hand when a player has a good game, he gets a lot of praise. It seems logical to me. Maybe you are trying to read too much into it? It's not like you have to crave your opinion into a stone with your own blood so you couldn't have a benefit of a doubt.

I see where you are coming from, but I disagree.

It is one thing to say "oh I thought he had bad passing skills, but now I see he has improved or I was the one who didnt see it", but it is plain stupid to post huge praise one week and huge criticism the other and then huge praise again, etc.

Goes for every player not just Lukaku. It's part of being a professional footballer. If you can't take criticism then they're on the wrong field of life. There isn't a time set for every player when they're ready.. and I feel Lukaku deserves a chance in a club he has been supporting long before joining it.

You are again placing a lot of hope on youth development, potential managers who will look to nurture him and so on but how likely is that considering our track record? Not very.

He needs to develop his entire game; his weaker foot (albeit a good finish with it last night), finishing, heading, how to hold the ball up, how to use his body/strength and all the other intangibles of being a footballer that only comes with playing regularly. I remember watching him play Fulham in the Carling Cup last season and he looked heavy, clumsy and technically poor. I was worried then but watching how much he has come on in just 7 months is encouraging.

And why is he better placed to do that at West Brom then at Chelsea?

People want to give him time and be patient - isn't that what we've done for the last decade? And how's that working out for us? So we give him another season on loan, what's the argument against giving him another one? It's the same argument that it is now isn't it, that we don't know if he'll be good enough for us.

I think what people are trying to say is that he needs a loan not to the Midlands or Spain, but somewhere a bit further afield. That's right....

he needs a loan move to a parallell universe. He needs to spend at least a decade on Earth-2 where he will play on exactly the same team as he would here, but without the risk to our own title chances (because we'll have them won't we?). Only then, at the age of 29 will we know if he's good enough to play for us and then we can obviously use the time machine to travel back in time to the summer of 2013 and take a chance on him.

In the meantime, let's just throw some money at Falcao or Cavani or *insert flavour of the month's name*.

Again like I said, you're reading too much into this. I haven't seen these kind of knee jerk posts in Lukaku thread. I think everyone agrees that he is one for the future and a very important player for the club. Question is if he is ready to play and deliver week in week out for Chelsea. Relatively friendly atmosphere in this thread, can't see people posting extreme rubbish, just different opinions.

I know, but it is not directed to Lukaku, it is directed at people who must stop with this overreactions. It is hilarious, just look on Oscar thread before and after Wembley!

It really has nothing to do with Romelu, but it is boring to read complete one sided posts everytime something different happens. I dont think one or two games are enough to change someone's opinion from top to bottom and then change it again!

Errrr...because he'll be playing regularly at West Brom. How can you have missed the most crucial part of my argument?

I haven't said anything about Falcao or Cavani so not sure why that's part of your response to my post.

We'll just have to agree to disagree anyway because it's getting a bit silly in here with all the Earth-2 nonsense and false dichotomies.

How many minutes will he play for us next season? With Ba and him to share minutes, I'd expect him to get a lot. Of course we probably won't do that but it doesn't mean we shouldn't.

There's always an argument not to do something, to hold back on taking a chance on someone but at some point you have to do that and he looks ready.
