CHOULO19 24,332
at West Brom ...he started as sub with Long first choice ,,, before the end of the season Lukaku was the starter.. people can moan about his touch ,,,,but he scores bucket loads of goals ... for me that is enoughI wasn't moaning about anything, I actually think we are incredibly lucky to have such a talent in our team. I was just making an observation/analysis. In fact, in a latter post I even said that I would like him to be our number one striker this season even if he's not 100% ready (certainly not as ready as most people seem to think) because it would help him develop and would pay in the long run. At West Brom, he wasn't started in games when the striker needed to do a lot of hold-up play, and that's because they only had him on loan and wanted immediate results. Here, we have him for the long run, and even though he will struggle, I think he should get the most playing time out of our strikers because that will do a world of good for him. We've already had 3 consecutive seasons with struggling strikers, what's one more, right?

HNKS 508
He might have scored a lot for West Brom but teams play differently against West Brom than they do against Chelsea. He isnt ready to be our number 1 striker, neither is Ba or Torres. We are in trouble if we dont sign Rooney. You heard it here first! Popular Post! Tomo 21,751 Posted July 26, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted July 26, 2013 Its seems some think the only way Lukaku will "get a chance" is if we make him the number 1 forward. There is a huge difference between giving a young player a shot and pining your hopes on them. wj818, Bir_CFC, The Skipper and 4 others
Christacinto 137
I don't know about you guys but that was a lot of good stuff in about 5 minutes of football. He's definitely first team material - rough on the edges though he may be.... Phil Driver 503
How old is he now 21? he has proved himself in the premier league and can only get better,he needs to be given a chance ,now, otherwise what is the point ,he has earnt the chance to play for Chelsea by his performances at West Brom ,he would seem to guarantee at least 20 goals and his time has come ,he should start the season as our striker in my book. Popular Post! Phil Driver 503 Posted August 5, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted August 5, 2013 20 is a boy ,he can only get better ,unlike Rooney who is already on the wane . Do you see what I did there. No point in signing young players unless when they prove themselves they get the chance to play for Chelsea and he has earnt the chance . robsblubot 3,595
we are not West Brom either ,,,WE should be able to provide him with many more chancesstarting for Chelsea means he will get one or at the most two opportunities to score when we play one of our rivals (or any tough CL match). It's really unfair to demand that level of effectiveness from a 20-year-old. Peace.
Popular Post! johnnythefirst 1,076 Posted August 5, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted August 5, 2013 Do not underestimate his mental stability because he's young. He had a shit year two seasons ago, at barely 18. He got through it by taking a step back, staying humble and working incredibly hard. The guy can handle disappointment. If you hear him talk during interviews, does he talk like a boy or a man, honestly? He'll handle the pressure. He might not score 20 goals in his first real Chelsea season, and he might miss some easy chances, but it won't destroy him. Quite sure of that. yuvala, semiller1313, blu35_army and 5 others

Phil Driver 503
You have got to say he looked a bit novicey v Madrid ,but Jose needs more time to work with him and at 20 he has plenty of time to come good for Chelsea. robsblubot
bouletje 82
What i found him doing wrong yesterday was his obsession to always go deep whenever he got a long ball towards him.It wouldn't do any harm for him to just control the ball and hold on to it for a few without storming to the other end, we were having a very though first half, very demanding for the back lines, holding the ball midfield would give the squad the chance to move forward slightly. Possession alone is a good way to be relieved of the pressure Madrid was giving us. TrippingStep
Stats 7,142
I wonder how Mourinho sees Lukaku. Does he believe he is ready to start or much of an impact player? I am not sure. Last season for WBA he scored many when coming from the bench, eg hattrick against United in one half, terrorrised Liverpool home and away when coming off the bench but at same time deserves a starting berth. Interesting.
