sutro 1,026
most likely chelsea didnt expect to be in this situation when they bought courtois,he was a long term plan to eventually replace cech, but in meanwhile he won the el,plays in a great team and doing very well on top of that.doesnt make things easier, but in the end its a luxuary problem,if they sell him its gonne be with a big profit as i dont see them selling cech. ja1 1,166
Maybe a bit off topic, but which player you actually like at Chelsea? So far I've seen you say that Oscar, Mata, Hazard, Courtois etc. are all shit and it's funny because those happen to be the players many Chelsea fans are most excited about. Maybe you'd prefer someone like Downing instead? The ironic thing was that he was defending Fernando on the Torres thread(!)

BlueLyon 9,359
The point is that Cech is 31 and still has 4 years of top football if he stays fit. There were injuries with his back and he could retire in next season, but he was quite fit recently and at current form, he could stay for several seasons. Courtois on other hand will want to play and if Barca actualy offers him deal, he will surely accept it. He would be first choice gk imediately and would play along Messi, Iniesta,...Barca would probably again offer very little money and then order their players to talk in press all summer how fantastic would be for Courtois to join them and that we treat him bad etc....scum barca.Courtois is finaly a piece of brilliant scouting and Im pretty sure we wont let him go for any price. Roman knows fact that Courtois is class talent and will fuck of barca.

LDN Blue 7,903
so cech is getting a surgery this summer,i quess courtois would be the stand in till cech is fine again but then what?....cech can easely play for 5-10 years, just look at vandersar.to be honest i think there's no room for 2 world class goalkeepers in 1 team,it would be such a waste to bench either of them sadlyTrue. But then you remember when Cech first arrived at Chelsea, he got his shot when Cudicini became injured and went on to keep that #1 shirt his. It would be a shame for Cech to have to sit on the bench, but if the younger Courtois starts doing better then that's better in the long-term for Chelsea. It's a Joe Hart-Shay Given situation, and we need Courtois to take his shot when it arrives.

Atholy 1,293
Thibaut just conceded his first goal in 5 games. He was beaten in the final seconds of the return game against Betis (Copa del Rey) from the spot.Such a pity he lost his 452 minutes clean sheet from a stupid penalty kick! However Atletico reached the semi finals (3-1 on aggregate)!http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XMBYL5zxHCgNevertheless his other record still stands strong: 948(!) minutes without a goal in Atletico's home stadium: Estadio Vicente Calderon! You go big guy!!! Atholy 1,293
Something else I needed to share with you guys. You've probably all have seen his triple save against Betis in the last game. Well now I've found a video without the legendary commentary... "y bitches...y bitches... y bitches... et Courtois... et Courtois" Just listen to the crowds reaction after his final save! Amazing. I think I have never heard a home crowd cheer like there was a goal scored... just for a save!Thibaut is really becoming a fan favorite at Madrid! I think If we loan him for another year... we might lose him. Such a difficult choice... because It's a little soon to replace Cech!I spoke to some Spanish friends... Courtois is getting really popular in Spain. Thibauting is one of the best proofs!Anyways amazing saves! I cannot wait for him to pull this off at the Bridge!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzkTnYaoTEc

OneMoSalah 8,886
If we have to replace Cech next year to keep Thibaut, then I have to be honest, we need to do it. Courtois is a one in a millon talent by the looks of it. Cech is also a very vey very good goalkeeper but lets be honest, would you rather lose Courtois or lose Cech?Because with Barca sniffing around and them 'being the best team in the world to nearly everyone' if they bid a reasonable offer he will want to go more than likely..... Hutcho 8,443
Tbh, the more Iook at this situation the less likely I think we will keep courtois. There is NO WAY a keeper of his quality at his age should be sitting on the bench for 5 years waiting for a shot. Let's be honest Cech is an amazing keeper and if I had to pick 1 GK for a 1 off match I would probably pick him. The only way we will keep courtois is if we decide either at the end of this season or the next to get rid of Cech who is still world class and being a GK in great shape I see no reason why he can't still be world class in 5 years time. I hope he stays as he has a great chance to become a GK legend like the likes of Cech and Schmeichel etc. We will probably end up selling him somewhere for something stupid like 10 mil. Then when Cech retires in 5 years buying him back for 50 mil... It wouldn't surprise me tbh.
Hutcho 8,443
If we look logically then in the long term courtois should be more beneficial to the team but I have a hard time saying we just get rid of Cech who is undoubtedly world class because we want to try and keep a youngster who is/can be as good/better than him... It's a tough decision whatever. But I don't think we can loan him for 5 years to atletico... Though they would probably love that.

Top goalies like Seaman, Schmeichel and van der Sar were all top class into their late 30's (van Der Sar was still excellent at 41). Cech could be an elite keeper for 5-10 more years. This is not a like Drogba or Cole or Lampard where we're talking about if someone will be good enough for Chelsea next season or the one after.
