Manchester United squad turn against one another after being forced into 25% pay cut

https://metro.co.uk/2019/05/09/manchester-united-squad-turn-against-one-another-after-being-forced-into-25-pay-cut-9445838/

Manchester United’s squad are blaming one another for the fact their salaries will drop by 25% next season. The Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Huddersfield last Sunday meant the club will finish outside the top four and will compete in the Europa League next season. United’s budget and forecasting is based on the assumption that – at a bare minimum – the club will finish 4th and take England’s final spot in the Champions League.

A season outside of Europe’s elite competition costs the club around £40m and threatens long-term sponsorship deals. To counter against this, United install clauses in contracts that means player salaries decrease by 25% if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League.

For the likes of Alexis Sanchez, a 25% decrease equates to around £5.2million a year and FourFourTwo claims some members of the United squad are far from happy. The report claims United players have turned on one another for their collapse in the final stages of the season and individuals have not taken responsibility for the fact they’re set to finish outside the top four. The prospect of a season in the Europa League makes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full campaign in charge look even more daunting.

Look at him now: Ex-Leeds prodigy who turned to a life of crime

https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/features/look-at-them-now/look-at-him-now-robert-bayly-and-leeds-united/

Football can be a ruthless sport at times, it really can. When we turn up on Saturdays to watch our favourite players strut their magic, we don’t give much thought to the many thousands of players who dreamt of the moment they would step out onto the turf of their respective stadiums to the sound of their name reverberating around the terraces, only for it to never happen for one reason or another. Indeed, we rarely consider the anonymous majority who never realised their dream, and the fact that every moment they spend after being dumped from the cruel grasp of the sport is as painful as last, as they recount the moment their ambitions slips through their fingers like water through cracks in the floor.

For Leeds prodigy Robert Bayly this harsh reality was all too relatable.

We say that because, following a string of ten transfers around the Irish domestic leagues, Bayly was jailed for two-and-a-half years in March 2018 for transporting almost €200,000 worth of cannabis across Ireland. Yes, that’s right – Bayly went from “child prodigy” to a wannabe Pablo Escobar in a matter of ten years.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international claimed that he had pursued a life of crime because of a gambling addiction that had been harrowing him since joining Leeds all those years ago, and while we have no reason not to believe that, we can’t help but wonder if their were greater forces at power to leave him in such a state.
