The Blues are reported to maka an offer on Croatian star Luka Modrić.

Chelsea boss Avram Grant is said to be trying to lure young Modrić into signing for the Blues. Although their bid of £20m in January was rejected, Chelsea are hoping that Webster Ruling might aid them in landing the Croatian star in the summer. The ruling allows player udner the age of 28 to buy out their contract if they are at the club for 4 years. With Modrić's manager and also Dinamo Zagreb’s executive vice-president Zdravko Mamić wanting a large sum of money for Dinamo's top star, Chelsea could use the fact that Modric could buy out his remaining contract for £1.5 next January.

Chelsea boss Avram Grant has thrown his hat into an already crowded ring of managers interested in Dinamo Zagreb star Luka Modric.

His £20m price-tag put off the Blues in January, but they could be planning a summer swoop.

The Blues hope that the ‘Webster Ruling’, which enables players under the age of 28 to buy out their contract after four years at a club, will come to their aid.

Modric is known to covet a move to Barcelona and claimed to have snubbed a possible move to Arsenal previously.

Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Newcastle United were monitoring the situation last month before agent Zdravko Mamic - also Dinamo Zagreb’s executive vice-president - deemed Modric not for sale.

The player signed an unprecedented 10-year contract at Zagreb late last year, in order to inflate his transfer value. However, Andy Webster’s infamous Fifa article 17 could mean that Modric could buy out his remaining contract for £1.5 next January.

With that in mind, Chelsea’s possible £10m bid in the summer could be reluctantly accepted by the Croatian club.

Chelsea are yet to make contact with the 22-year-old midfield ace. Sources suggest that Grant’s confidante Giovanni Rosso, a Croatian who spent time with Grant in Israel, has sounded out Modric on behalf of the London club.

He is a good player with a bright future ahead of him so we should snap him up immediately. He is going to be the long-term successor to Lampard and the sooner we snap him up before either one of Milan clubs or Madrid get him or his price doubles.

This is one that is refusing to go away..... reports now are discussing a close deal worth £12m! And saying that a deal could be done in the summer. I see no reason though why the deals can't be done now and then the move made in the summer like what we did with Robben and Cech?

I would like to see him here anway...

Clearly paper talk but 30 million is ridiculous!

Tottenham Hotspur this morning agreed a deal to sign Luka Modric believed to be for a minimum of €20m (about £15.5m), breaking their transfer record. topic closed now

Chelsea target Fernando Torres and Luka Modric after Double triumph

dailymail.co.uk

Fernando Torres and Luka Modric top Chelsea's summer transfer targets, giving Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy a major dilemma this summer.

Having qualified for the Champions League, Levy knows that selling Modric would be hugely unpopular with fans and doubtless against the wishes of his manager Harry Redknapp.

Whether Spurs, who have sold stars such as Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov in recent years to Manchester United, could resist a £30million bid is questionable.

For Liverpool, the situation is clearer: with losses of £54.9m, a net debt of £351m, no Champions League next season and with new chairman Martin Broughton, in effect, an appointee of the club's bank RBS, a £50m bid for their star asset will clearly be accepted.

Quote from a Dinamo native and Chelsea fan (cfcnet.co.uk)

Dinamo Zagreb chairman and his brother (god damn mob in my club) just came back from London regarding 3 London clubs interested in two Dinamo wonderkids - Šime Vrsaljko and Mateo KovačIć ...Interested clubs are Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United!Šime Vrsaljko is a defensive right, midfielder right wonderkid player coming very fast through ranks in Dinamo (18),Mateo KovačIć (16) is attacking midfielder wonderkid who has developing way faster than Luka Modrić did!, and our chairman said Roman Abramovitch (who was at the dinner along with Carlo) is interested in signing the defensive right 18 year old player but our chairman did not approved because he wants to sell both of them for a fee of minimum 15 mil euros, but Roman did not wanted Mateo!

However contact negotiations are still ongoing for Vrsaljko, but the most interesting part of conversation was at the dinner between Carlo and our chairman that lasted around 20 minutes and that was about bringing Luka Modric (totenham player, from dinamo zagreb club ranks too) in January to Chelsea!! Carlo has said that Luka is amazing player/midfielder (as we all know it) and that he wants to sign him as his nr.1 buy! more news to follow in the next week! Thats all our chairman said in the exclusive interview....p.s. sorry for English

Great player.

Who cares if he's ugly and plays for Spurs, would you turn down Messi or Xavi or David Villa if they'd have played for Spurs? Some of the things you read on this forum are laughable. Dedication to your club is one thing, but blind loyalties are just hilarious.
