Unfortunate to say but you have been been proven right. He was bad but he was used as a scapegoat when the problems have been much depeer than Ivanovic. It starts from the defence to midfield to attack to the MANAGER.

i think he is still past his sell by date as a rb. still worth having around as a central defender option though.

He has been tho, but he was never the reason our overall defence is so bad, I mean we broke defensive records in Joses first coming with fullback positions being the chink in our armour.

Di Matteo or the club - my money is on the club - anticipated his decline, or better said, saw the need for a future successor and bought Azpilicueta. Cole on the opposite flank already had an in-house successor in Bertrand. Good moves. Fast forward three years and they're both good fullbacks.

But then Mourinho was appointed and he went into a different direction. That's something that has hurt the club for years and you would think they would finally learn. Always swerving.

Cole gone, Bertrand gone.

Ivanovic has been declining for years. Azpilicueta, his successor, moved to opposite flank.

Baba in but apparently not good enough. Centreback Zouma is prefered at fullback and the less said about his performances there, the better.

Now we're crying for better options.

Branislav Ivanovic is wanted by Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini.

The 31-year-old will be a free agent in the summer when his Chelsea contract expires and Mancini is already plotting to take him to the San Siro.

His interest in the defender has been relayed and the Italian giants are hopeful that a deal can be struck.

Ivanovic, who has suffered an alarming dip in form this season, had hoped to earn a new deal under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

But Chelsea’s policy when it comes to players over the age of 30 is that contract extensions will not be discussed until the February of the final year of their deal. If the decision is taken not to offer him a new contract then Inter will be waiting to snap him up.
