I've just been ignoring the whole Gittens thing because I don't know much about him and wasn't worth looking much in case the deal doesn't happen as so many of them don't. Guess it is time to check him out.

Usually I try to watch the "player vs team" youtube videos because you see every involvement (good and bad) they had in the game, but even then you still can't see so much (what runs they make, whether they are switched off in moments they should be switched on etc).

In the stats he looks very Madueke-esque with slightly better defensive output.

Currently have 9 players in the AM and ST roles for 3 or 4 spots in the XI - Neto Madueke Estevao Palmer Gittens George Jackson Delap Guiu + not even including Mudryk Carney Sterling Nkunku Felix DDFofana Broja Deivid Kellyman

Wonder if they didn't spend on some of the kids or had the sense to stay clear of Sancho and Felix, we would have the funds to go for one serious player instead of signing Gittens + Pedro for 100+ million?

felix and nkunku will be sold

guiu will be loan

brojam fofana and sterling wont be in the club next season

without penaltys, joao pedro had only 6 goals last season in the premierleague

its a very poor record

That is the thing, I like him. He is a jack of all trades and is very good at linking up with players, but for the money being touted, it baffles me. He does not blow me away. Good player. Top class? No. And we have similar players to him already. He is often good when he is playing of a target man, such as Delap which may be in the thought process too and he has more pace than likes of Nkunku, Felix, Palmer so probably makes us more fluid but think anything above £50m is way too much.

The number of question marks around João Pedro and what he means for the team make it difficult to form a definitive opinion as of now. If he’s being bought as a pure striker then I don’t know how we can have all 3 of Delap, Jackson, and João Pedro in the squad and keep them all happy. Jackson would have to be sold. If we’re

Feels like we need to hear directly from Maresca if this move happens to judge whether he’s a decent buy or not.

Gittens looks like more squad filler tbh, albeit decently well suited to Maresca's system

Pretty underwhelming especially for £55m but lets see what he does for us.

Who are supposed to be the stars at squad filler FC? Cole Palmer good player but may never be that guy doing insane numbers again, so then who is? Are we supposed to have faith that Delap does big big numbers on the first try? Or there just isn't even ambition to score the huge number of goals it takes to win PL?

We still look massively short in terms of attacking threat imo. Upgrading our squad filler is good but it is more of a stabilisation job to get us back into being regularly top 5.

Doing well in CWC papering over the situation a bit imo, will get found out in PL again during the season if we don't do something better than this before the end of summer.

He has played mostly LW at Brighton and as Striker and AM. He does have quite a bit of versatility and always looking for goal. I think he would put both Gittens and Noni on the bench.

That’s what I’m asking. We won’t know until we either hear from Maresca after we’ve signed him or once he actually plays.

Is he being seen as a left forward? If so, £60m seems insane when we’re also buying Gittens for the left at £55m. Is he being seen as a striker? We’ve got Delap and Jackson so when does he play?

The only spot that makes some sense is in behind Delap or Jackson in a 2 striker system. But then how to you fit Palmer, Gittens, and Neto in at the same time? You don’t.

One table that shows Gittens very favourably: xG and xA from dribbling situations.

Yeah, all the data and statistics I see posted all over Twitter with Gittens says he’s one of the best around for his age even if the eye test is polarizing. And we’ve heard many times that the people on our board are very data driven.

So when you combine their love of data and their love of former City academy players, Gittens was a no brainer for them.

I feel there's been no mention of his antics, though. We've gone crazy at Jackson for them in recent months, but have been seen what Pedro got away with last season?

There's having that "bull" about you, and there's consistently going over the line. More eyes will be on him if he makes the move, so we all know these misdemeanours will be punished.

The problem of course is Bundesliga + not playing for Chelsea. Those numbers are likely to tank while being 2v1'd. The plus side is it might be another player that requires 2v1 defending and occupies players to free up space in the middle.

Don't need to fit them all but agree with the logic - instead of spending 100m on Gittens and Neto in successive summers, we might as well have signed an elite winger by paying over the odds

Even though there's Liverpool interest, we could be in the conversation for Guehi because of his time here, familiarity with Colwill + the fact that he is keen to be playing regularly in a WC year. Not sure he fancies rotating with Konate at Liverpool.
