Duppy Conqueror 1,586 Posted August 7, 2023 Share Posted August 7, 2023 Only Keeper and CF where we will potentially pay big in the near future(although may not need too if our young grow good there) Sure Caicedo is overpriced,we could have got another good DM/CM plus another good player at another position for his likely cost but overall i'd say we are ahead due to players we've got as bargains in the current market,our investment in young players and players coming through our youth system far outweighs paying 30m or so over the odds for Caicedo. The market is inflating and with Saudi coming in its only going to be worse. 100m for someone like Caicedo will be considered cheap in 5 years. It's still hard to swallow for those that have been following the league for an age (me included), but we have to get with the times or be left behind. Thats why I actually support the club buying so many youngsters at a relatively low prize. Even if they dont turn out as the real deal, u can still sell them with a profit, bc the overall market will inflate over the next few years and if they turn out great u saved a lot of money and u dont have to deal with clubs like Brighton or Inter who love to squeeze u for every pound possible and let u wait till deadline day. mkh 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I agree to an extent. It's a good model in theory, but I hope we just don't go down the same path as before by having youngsters on our books till their mid twenties.
