Their other options are Fred and McTom in the midfield, I can see why they'd be interested in another midfielder, whether its Ugarte or Caicedo, adding steel to your midfield is never a bad thing (something we've lacked since Essien left us and then Kante started picking up all those injuries). Feels like Ugarte is the exact opposite sort of profile they need in midfield. They’re like the opposite of us. We have the world class playmaker/ball player in Enzo but lack the hard man DM/destroyer. They have the DM but lack the playmaker deeper in midfield. Which is why they’ve wanted De Jong so badly. Bruno and Eriksen are more advanced players and aren’t best suited further away from goal.

Pizy 18,908
Are we going to become cheap bastards wage wise under Boehly? If we are indeed going to target players like a Ugarte, Osimhen, Caicedo etc who are highly sought after by a handful of other top clubs then surely our hierarchy can’t expect to convince these guys to choose Chelsea when we’re offering half the wages of the others? Special Juan 28,141
Interesting to see if this collapses being the first big target of the summer and the fact that Poch has apparently spoken to him. Could be the first kick in the teeth for Poch and the first failed target and the board failing at the first fence

Pizy 18,908
Usually when the top PL clubs fall out of the UCL for a short period of time like United have they know they have to offer MORE in wages to make up for it. If reports are to be believed we’ve gone the opposite way… Blue Armour

I have no idea what Ugarte is currently earning at SCP, but we shouldn't be offering stupid amounts to compete with the likes of City, PSG, or United in that regard. Of course we shouldn’t go crazy offering dudes 200-300k a week right off the bat, but apparently we’ve offered him midtable PL level wages. Probably a decent bump to what he’s earning currently but why would he choose a Chelsea side who are out of the UCL and who are offering half the weekly wage? He can go to PSG or United and probably earn huge money. If anything, this should be the final summer where we DO offer huge wages in order to get us back into the top 4 ASAP. Then when we make it we step back a bit and trim the wage bill. Blue Armour, didi007 and lucio
Special Juan 28,141
Lets say he's on 50k a week at Sporting, offering him 120k is not in any way shape or form disrupting the wage structure at this club when you have the likes of Mount being offered 200k plus and players like Kante picking up crazy amounts for sitting on the hospital bed. Think we are offering him £80K/week if they are saying we offered him €2m a year net.
Vegetable 830
Almost everyone was happy with TB slashing high wages, esp after entire season of moaning on how much likes of KK, Cucu or Havertz earn, so it's not like super surprising we aren't offering high wages anymore, eh? Pizy 18,908
With Felix, Mount, RLC, Ziyech, Pulisic, Mendy, and whoever else all off our books I feel like we could comfortably offer all the new signing big wages and still come out saving money compared to last season. Yet both of them are on the way out, mainly because of wages. We have to reward players with high wages not tempt them. If a player wants to come to Chelsea because of the wage package and not because the manager and the players around him we are doomed. Man U are the perfect example. We should offer respectable wage, but we don't have the revenue to be the biggest spenders. Vegetable

He has already proven that the club are willing to spend huge money on transfer fee themselves. And paying off a manager less than a year into a 5 year contract that had him as one of the highest paid coaches in the league. But wages are a big part of what attracts the players themselves. Being sensible with our wage structure is fine. Being cheap is another thing. Not all top class players will want to have their contract loaded up with a hundred incentives. Not when other huge clubs will just go in and say “here’s 200k a week.” Norfolkblue1961
