Juventus already looking for a replacement, they gonna sell him this season either way, De Ligt will reject us and they will have to accept Bayern's offer even if it's a bit lower, it's dead meat. The fact Tuchel and Boehly didn't try to talk to De Ligt at the beginning and convince him says a lot about how we handle transfers. Another guy who wants cheap titles like Hakimi, can't wait for Mönchengladbach to give them the annual spanking.

How do you know this?

From what is being reported regarding Sterling, he was convinced Chelsea was the right move for him from a discussion with Tuchel so this being the case I would expect there to have been work done and contact made with De Ligt and his entourage, particularly as the links with him have now been around for a couple of weeks.

That doesn't mean though that we've been given encouragement but in the meantime Bayern have also entered the conversation.

Ultimately I'd rather we be in for De Ligt than not. I don't find it at all embarrassing if we miss out on him to Bayern, I'm glad we're ambitious to have a go for him because it's these types of moves we may need to make over the next 2 - 3 years to get back to where we're aspiring to and we'll get some through the door in time if we're bold enough.

Fuck the wages.

We got rid of a clown with no footballing ability in favor of a player proven in the league and a consistent influential attacker.

Delighted.

This and the fact he will keep CHO out of the team who is absolutely shite

There were reports that Bayern were in touch with De Ligt for at least 2 weeks prior so what gives, how did Tuchel not know if he is interested or not so we don't waste our time with him.

Being ambitious is all fine and good but if at the end of the summer we end up with Kounde or Ake or both, we will be one step closer to being the next Arsenal, we will be here crying in the winter how they suck and make to many mistakes and by next summer we will hoping for a miracle sell to get rid of them which won't happen.

If we miss out on De Ligt and don't get either Skriniar or Koulibali we're only massively downgrading.

Whilst reports may suggest De Ligt's preference is Bayern, all reports that aren't from Germany seem to suggest he'd happily join us so I can understand why we're made a move on him.

Let's be real, this wouldn't likely be a move under the old ownership. It's pretty certain Kounde would have been wrapped up.

And, at present, it's difficult to look at any of the defensive options we're looking at as downgrading. If compared to Rudiger then yes, but he's gone. The comparison now has to be on what we currently have at the club. I certainly don't want us buying players for the sake of it, but I also don't fancy watching Malang Sarr play a significant amount of games next season because we've been left so short of options in the backline.

Let's see who we end up with and can then make opinions then. I think Sterling is an excellent start, and hopefully the ownership/Tuchel can pull another couple like him out of the bag.

Hope you're also glad when Ake or Kounde hold the shirt next week as well for a whooping 50-60 mil.

I'd rather we overpay for Gvardiol than these average guys.

Atleast we have to wait till then...save yourself some stress and watch as the transfer window unfolds...De Ligt is good but not worth paying above €80m for....said €80m because of his age....aside physicality and positioning which other attributes will make him more perfect fit for the premier league?

Do yourselves a favour, it'll be Kounde or Ake.  De Ligt is clearly off to Bayern IMO - seems much stronger rumours re. them now

Raphinha, not sure what will happen there, if he is that desperate to join Barca, he will probably wait for them to activate the 2nd lever.
