Hypothetically speaking, would buying a Emerson/Zappacosta type player now really satisfy you? Especially if we are patient and land Borno Sosa this summer to compete with Chilwell?

on loan yeah. the kind of deal newcastle struck with villa for targett would have been perfect for us. Should not impede our future plans come summer. But our board is just incompetent.

Anyway. The one deadline day signing we made, this kid from charlton, does look somewhat promising in the clips i saw of him. Athletic wih a touch for goal, good body control and mobility despite his lanky frame. Still super raw tho. Averages a goal every 100mins this season, not too shabby. The development teams will have fun with him

One thing is for sure, this summer is going to be INSANE. Arsenal shedding a huge chunk of their wage bill so they will be spending big surely. United didn’t bring anyone in and will be appointing a new manager so they’ll be going big. Cavani, Greenwood, and possibly even CR7 will be gone so they’ll be targeting at least 2 forwards. City will be City and will likely spend £100m on some fullbacks again.

And then there’s us. At least one of AC and Rüdiger will be gone most likely. So we’ll need a CB or two. We’ll need fullback depth. And then we have a bunch of attacking players who may fancy a new club. I expect a summer much like 2020 from us in terms of numbers in and out. The big moves were impossible this month.

In list of priorities next summer, the two who are undoubtedly on the top of it are both LB Borna Sosa and DM Aurélien Tchouaméni

Sosa is just flavor of the month. If we bought these before we would end up with Icardi, Pepe, Belotti, Bailey, Sancho...

Except you just brought up attackers.

Sosa ticks so many boxes for what we want in a LWB.

But we are going away from WBs. Would be shocked if we play with WBs next season.

What evidence suggests Tuchel will simply abandon a winning system? If anything we have seen he will start balancing the 343 alongside a 4222.

Next big-5 league stars

https://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/b5wp/2021/wp366/en/

Issue number 366 of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post presents the 100 players born in 2002 or after active in 31 European leagues outside of the big-5 with the highest InStat Index. The latter takes into consideration footballers’ pitch production depending on position played (centre back, winger, etc.) and the general level of the matches in which they participated.

The greatest score overall was recorded for AFC Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch. Among midfielders, the Dutch talent ranks ahead Arsen Zakharyan (Dinamo Moscow) and Fábio Carvalho (Fulham). Running out contract, the latter is being courted by several major teams. The highest InStat Index for full backs was recorded for another AFC Ajax player who is attracting interest from clubs in the big-5: the 19-year-old Devyne Rensch.

The best score for other positions were measured for Oliver Dovin (Hammarby IF) among goalkeepers, Ilya Zabarnyi (Dynamo Kiev) for centre backs and Jakub Kamiński (Lech Poznań) among forwards. Akinkunmi Amoo (Hammarby) and Sebastiano Esposito (Basel, on loan from Inter) complete the podium for strikers. The InStat Index for players from 36 European leagues is accessible for free in this exclusive tool. More information is available on demand.
