🔵Simon Phillips reports this morning that Real Madrid really want to sign Enzo F. this summer and Chelsea would be willing to discuss an Enzo F. departure for a large fee.

Next report will be, Real Madrid willing to offer their French midfielders as part of Enzo deal 😆

Understand Chelsea are set to make new and improved offer to Borussia Dortmund for Jamie Gittens. Talks ongoing with BVB after initial £42million offer turned down last week. Gittens, crucially, wants move to Stamford Bridge.

For the silly price we’re going to end up paying for Gittens he needs to immediately slot into the team and be impactful. That’s not the money you pay for purely a depth signing who will be stuck behind Madueke or something.

he is worse than madueke and sancho. this is another terrible signing. he is not even good enough for the german bundesliga. another waste of money. i would have taken sancho for less money.

i would by rodrygo for 80 because he would make an instant impact. not this gittens shit

There are many better options like Yidiz, Xavi, Rogers, Guler all shit on Gittens.

I just have zero excitement about Gittens at all. He doesn’t move me even a little bit. And that’s crazy to say for someone who is going to cost us £50m or something.

If the club were going after him because his price was insanely low and they truly feel like he could blossom into a top player that would be one thing. Like if we were taking a punt for £20m for example. But for the money that’s being talked about you should be getting someone who is a sure thing.

Chelsea and Newcastle will compete for the signing of João Pedro from Brighton, and both teams are preparing offers for the window.

(@andrehernan, @felipee_sil, and Bruno Andrade)

Trying to drive up the price or wages with our name. Newcastle has been negotiating this deal for over a week.

When we were first linked with João Pedro a few weeks ago I was against it because he’s not a natural striker nor is he is a natural winger. That was before we signed our actual #9 Delap. Now he’s much more interesting as a target because he could play WITH a Delap or Jackson at the same time.

Though, if we’re interested in a hybrid type, “play anywhere across the attack” sort of player I’d personally take Kudus over João Pedro.

BVB demanding 65m for gittens is a joke. Probably like 15% PL tax and 20% stupid ‚soccer‘ investor tax. They want him gone and everyone know it. Gittens has hardly featured under Kovac cos his position does not exist in his system and does not fit BVBs way of attacking play.

To me gittens looks a lot like a somewhat technically cleaner madueke with even less awareness and link up ability but having hit a purple patch. The sancho comparison is a bit lazy, they are very different players.
Gittens has a lot of pace and power obviously. However, if you look at his highlight reel, it is all sprints, dribbles, shots. He seldom looks up to spot a better placed teammate. Pure one route footballer. Everything he contributes comes from solo actions leading up to a finish or attempted assist. his link up play and vision is quite underdeveloped. He has almost zero value in slow short-pass build up play. Against a deep bus he might be able to skip past a defender occasionally and get a shot off but don’t expect him to provide perfect crosses or defence splitting passes.
The upside is, he is super direct, great on the counter, won’t frustrate  ppl to death by avoiding risks and delaying to pull the trigger like so many of our players.

Yeah, the upside is clear and you can see why Maresca would be interested. But again, he’s someone you’d take a chance on for cheap so that if he flops you can easily move him on. To pay huge money for Gittens is terrible business.

While I get the skepticism of Gittens I do laugh when players like Gordon and Rodgers are talked up as alternatives given the reactions if we went for them when they went to Newcastle and Villa would have been even worse (well was in the formers case).

I feel like the price tag has a lot to do with it. People weren't pleased when we were linked with Gordon years ago, but Rogers for less than £10m wouldn't have been an issue for most. Based on his rise at Villa, it would have proven to be a very astute piece of business.

Agree with Gordon - Tuchel wanted him and the forum was up in arms about signing him but many wanted Rogers to be the Villa player included in the Maatsen deal.
