Someone on the Guardian suggested Alessio Cragno from Cagliari, although it's not a transfer rumor or anything.

well, if it truly out of left field (meaning not on that list of 35 who have now been linked) here would be my best guesses

Mendy worries me. He looked poor the last game I saw him play, he is 29 in around 5 months (even though that age means nothing short term for GKers, his fees being talked about are high for that age) his distribution is meh, he has very little big game experience (no European experience and only 2 years top flight experience), and he is an African Senegal national team player (now is their starter atm) so we lose him for a month or so when AFCON starts (even though that is not right away, it is 3 of the next 4 years after this season). He is very tall (1.98m), on the plus side.

Yeah im not sold on him either, he would be second choice. Either get a quality one or wait it out, yes many are better than kepa but that doesnt mean we should settle with an average keeper. I would love Martinez or Onana.

Is he suggesting Sancho there? No chance.

I think it is more just a general point

I agree on Sancho

the only way there is room for him (and it would NOT, obviously, be this window) is if two disastrous things happen (well 3, but I am NOT going to even discus Ziyech with a career ending injury, the odds are really low)

1 CHO turns complete bust

2 Pulisic is just far too often injured

Doesn't look like there's any scenario in which Kepa isn't our starting keeper for at least the first match or two. Doesn't Mendy currently have COVID? So if he is the one we buy you have that to deal with for who knows how long.
Feels like a new keeper should probably not have been left so late.
I genuinely think Frank has 0 faith in kepa that he will start willy if he has to game week 1 and we don't have a new keeper.
If we buy a keeper I can see kepa starting vs Brighton not to rock the boat as its just 1 game though

If not Oblak (next year unless we truly do a ever before in history liquidation this window) then Predrag Rajković is still my number one

It's a shame our scouting team seems so dead-set on tall GK's from France currently (Areola, Maignan, Mendy like wtf maybe stop being such a broken record).

Italy in my opinion has some of the most promising GK's out there, and while few would be cheap it still feels like better investments than spending 30-40m on what seems like competition for Kepa.

Alex Meret, Strakosha and Musso are all players I would take ahead of any of the French options.
If we took someone like Areola for a loan then it would be fine, as we could focus the next summer window fully on GK and CB, but buying say Mendy for 30-35 m just increases the total spending on the Gk position without a clear WC GK between the posts.

Onana would also be fine with me, I like him quite a bit.

He is smaller than Kepa. I am pretty sure Cech and Lollichon only want tall GKs.

I'm fine with Mendy since he reminds me of Courtois. Massive, commanding presence but weak with the ball at his feet. Serviceable, maybe, but nowhere close to many modern, ball playing keepers.

We just need someone steady and assertive first and foremost. We can sacrifice ball playing ability if Mendy can stop us getting destroyed on corners and crosses. Or holding our breath every time a long range shot heads toward our goal.

I appreciate the effort you put into your post, but I honestly dont know what below is referring to:

"some of your tall ones are shorter than some of your shorter ones"

The point was just that all the names and Cech/Lollichon connections so far were tall keepers playing in France, there was no further analysis on height or anything from my side.
My preference of the other three names was not so much coming from their height, but other qualities they contribute with.
