Chelsea Transfers

If we don't fix our defensive issues, then I'm afraid that we'll lose out in top 4. Which means top players wouldn't even look at Chelsea in the summer, because we're not going to be qualified for Champions League.

What was the point of appealing the transfer ban to CAS, if we are not going to sign anyone? I keep seeing rumours of us being interested in midfielders and attackers, when we desperately need a centre back and a leftback.

interesting part in there suggesting possibly a short term option will be considered. ie. a loan  That'll be a striker/attacker.  Pretty clear to me the club are working to bring player(s) in, and if they find players who improve us, theyll be signed.

All speculation of course but Lemar?  Piatek? for the loan

I disagree on both counts.

Firstly we should be holding off the competition for 4th, United the only minor threat but Ole's at the wheel and all that.

Secondly I don't think not having CL will frighten players off, were in the era now where players grew up seeing nothing but Chelsea success. David Luiz, Kante, Kova and Jorginho all gave up CL footy to come here when we didn't have it.

It seems Lampard is taking the approach of only signing when there's a clear benefit too, which is the right thing to do regardless of the short term hit.

One small thing. I am FAR FAR more worried about the loss of revenue that comes from missing out again on CL footy than I am its impact on recruitment. Our business model demands pretty much constant or near constant CL or we start to run into FFP issues.

The problem is not just Utd putting a run together and being able to overtake us. At the moment, we are incredibly inconsistent which should be expected from such as young team, this means we do not know what we are getting from one day to the next as we saw over Xmas. Additionally, we also do not know how they will react when things get real in the last quater of the season when the pressure ramps up. Maybe they will be ok but our form over Xmas and experience of watching other young teams tells us that we should be wary.

Lastly it is not just Utd. There is also Sheff Utd who are defying odds, Wolves who are a good team, Le Arse and Spuds. I am not saying those teams are perfect but more that they can still generate enough points if we continue to be very inconsistent.

Weve recently had the month from hell and none of them were strong enough to punish us. We may be young and inconsistent but that's proving better than what our rivals have had to offer so far and I'm not seeing anything particularly worrying that suggests that will change. Spurs are stagnant, Arsenal as much as their footy has improved under Arteta they still ain't creating a great deal and United's small squad should be crippled with the Europa/PL/FA Cup schedule, likewise Wolves. As great as Sheffield are doing I just can't see them making it over 38 games, if they do then manager of the decade should be under lock and key already, would trump Leicester's title on achievement.

I'm not saying it's 100% a done deal and we still need to be kept on our toes but would you honestly be particularly hopeful on catching 4th if we were in one of those teams position?

Let's see where we are after the next run of 4/5 games is done..which is Newcastle..Arsenal...Leicester..Man U..Spurs. .if still 4th after all that then hopefully we can stay 4th going onwards.

I dont think no Champions League with effect to badly. Obviously money loss but in terms of players. Long as can be convincing enough to show it's a short term thing rather then long term stay out..

How negative POV you need to have to say Sheffield, Arsenal or Spurs can overtake us? Never understood people who think like this.

I do not disagree that the teams below us have their own issues. My concerns are more that if any of those teams put together a run and we continue to be inconsistent then we will be in trouble, so I would not only be worried about Utd like you initally indicated.

Yes, next five games are key. If we are still 6 points+ clear by that point we should be ok, however it will be a big ask.

the main thing that would make me worry (opponents wise) is if Manure sack the clueless OGS and install a top class manager

Allegri or Poch especially

especially IF they actually do good business this window (which is shaky)

I also am hoping for a Leicester overall collapse (which is less likely)

I would say pragmatic rather than negative. The inital comment stated that we should only be concerned with Utd but it is quite clear that they are not the only team that can catch us. Our biggest problem at the moment is consistency which is due to the inexperience of the squad. Thinking that this is not a big issue is naive.

You dont understand how ppl think like that? All it takes is a few injurys/ bad games and that could very well happen it's not negativity its facts!
