Premier League fixtures 2020/21 released: Champions Liverpool to host newly-promoted Leeds in opening round

Reading the article again it seems like that was for just the one match against Wolves, probably for the trophy lift.

I'd be a lot more annoyed if they had changed the rules right around the time we became eligible to play in the CWC

Why do you never see Nike bringing in outrageous designs with silly checkered patterns on the Pool kits? They always tend to be lot more clean while they experiment designs with ours.

New Balance 2018-19 were their best IMHO

Yeah..I guess it's still possible for next year's PL competition?

Don't recall if Liverpool were able to do it in the PL right after their CWC win.

Yeah we can register a new kit next season with the badge on

we might also be able to register a new kit for the remaining fa cup games

Still annoying. Half the fun of being world champion is rubbing it under ppls noses

I am just hoping for a decent home kit next season where a crack head hasn't been put in charge of designing it. Kit like the first Nike one or the 2015/16 kit please. Even though I am 36 now and don't wear shirts apart from the 5 a side pitch I really want one with the CWC badge.

Man shot dead outside Palmeiras stadium during riot after Club World Cup final loss to Chelsea

https://www.espn.co.uk/football/fifa-club-world-cup/story/4593068/man-shot-dead-outside-palmeiras-stadium-during-riot-after-club-world-cup-final-loss-to-Chelsea

A man was shot dead during a riot on Saturday after trouble broke out among Palmeiras fans who had watched their team lose to Premier League club Chelsea in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, Brazilian police said.

The man, who police said was an off-duty prison guard, was shot outside Palmeiras' stadium in Sao Paulo, where thousands of fans had gathered to watch the match on big screens.

"There were some outbreaks of fighting among fans, which unleashed a riot and a man was shot," a military police statement said.

Riot police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds. One man was arrested, the statement said.

Sao Paulo police investigator Cesar Saad told journalists added that 15 other fans were injured in clashes with police or in fights among themselves.

Images will be analysed to identify others involved in the riots, police said. Police continued to patrol the area to prevent any new disturbances.

Chelsea beat the Copa Libertadores champions 2-1 after extra time in the game in Abu Dhabi.

Palmeiras were aiming to win the annual tournament for the first time and join state rivals Corinthians, Santos and Sao Paulo, all of whom have won the trophy played between the top club sides in the world.

That's the thing the shirts look nice!! Then they add a whole shitty design to them that isn't needed! And a whole variety of patterns that again isn't needed..hopefully this year..

Nothing to hope for, kit has already been designed. You have it in kit thread.

Presumably the denial is based on Premier League rules. As long as the rules have been applied consistently, i.e.. that Liverpool and Man Utd were also denied permission, then I don't care. Let's wear it when it's allowed and not fuss about it when it's not.

On another issue. Is it next season that the format of this tournament changes and, when it changes, will the current holders automatically qualify?

Edit: According to a Wikipedia article the reigning champions will not qualify.

We qualified with CL win even for next tournament.

Biggest change is moving to every four years, and of course how many teams get in.

What does it look like?

Currently the Club World Cup runs once a season and features the winner of the Champions League in each of the respective six footballing confederations, as well as the winner of the host nation's domestic league (in this year's case, Qatar).

But in 2024, FIFA will scrap that model. Instead, the tournament will grow from featuring seven teams to 24, and run every four years.

Similarly to the international World Cup, the teams will be split into eight groups of three teams - with the winners of each group advancing to the knockouts, which will begin at a quarter-final stage.

The tournament will take place between June and July - when the Confederations Cup would usually be held, with FIFA deciding to abandon that tournament due to the lack of interest in it.

How do you qualify for the Club World Cup?

As it stands, FIFA have yet to confirm how you will qualify for the tournament (great planning guys) but according to Reuters, qualification will be based on a team's performance in their continental competitions over the course of the last four seasons.

While the official number of teams who can qualify from respective confederations has yet to be confirmed, it is likely that the 24 teams will consist of:

  • Eight European teams
  • Six South American teams
  • Three African teams
  • Three Asian teams
  • Three North/Central American teams
  • One Oceanic team

Yes, they were granted special permission to wear the badge against Wolves on 29/12/2019 but they did not wear it in the actual game against Chelsea. Only for the trophy lift afterward. I really didn't care before reading this but I do now. If we are not allowed to wear it this will be far from the first time it has been one rule for Chelsea and another rule for everybody else.

That kit is so not officially confirmed though, if you look back over the years, there have been SO many fakes that so many people swore were real and confirmed.

here is the link for you post btw

https://www.joe.co.uk/sport/why-youre-going-to-hate-the-new-look-club-world-cup-316265

I have some questions

1. Will there be a FWCC in late 2022? (due to World Cup, I so doubt it.)

2. IF they push it to February 2023, will it be under the old format? Or the new format?

3. Exact same question as number 2, but make it a December 2023 tourney.

4 Your article said 2024 for the new format, so again, what about 2022 (late) and then 2023 (early 2023, so delayed like thsi year, but now delayed due to WC, not Covid) or the regular December 2023 dates)?

5. IF delayed, do we still retain the title the whole time, until the next one is played (like the World Cup winners do now, and they are moving to an every four years FWCC format, so the winners will be holders for 4 years anyway)?
