Looks like it’s true that if he wants to avoid quarantine when he comes to the UK from Swiss he needs to be registered as Chelsea player before his first Germany match. Don’t know if it’s correct info though.

It is true.

They are talking about Van De Beek but from 1:13, the presenter mentioned about the exemption that will be granted by the UK government if Van De Beek is registered as a United player before either of Netherlands' games. The rule applies to all players in the PL and EFL who are away on international duty.Β

The club could complete the Havertz deal and register him quietly before announcing the deal next week...

Thanks for digging up mate. According to this rule surely we would register Havertz as Chelsea player before this Sunday otherwise it’s getting silly.

If this is true then why were all the reportsΒ when we signed Thiago Silva suggesting that he would quarantine before joining up with the squad?

I guess it’s because no Brazil NT activities meaning Silva won’t be tested by authorized association (national team) therefore can not be exempted for quarantine.

Maybe because he went back to France (before going to Milan) between the Champions League final and last Friday? France obviously not exempted from UK's quarantine list.

So silly, just test him in the UK ffs

Is that really a foolproof approach?

Most countries are still following the standard 14-day quarantine thing. There have been many others examples I'm sure but saw the news earlier that David Silva tested positive for the virus today, despite having tested negative on Friday.Β

The point is that the tests at the national teams are apparently enough to circumvent the quarantine, but tests in the UK are not.Β

And the whole Nations League thing under such circumstances is bloody daft.

The Nations League shouldn't have existed in the first place. It's all because UEFA were greedy!

Fair enough but hey, if it "forces" the club to announce the deal ASAP, then this is a blessing in disguise. :DΒ

But isn't NL just replacement for pointless friendlies we had before? That was even worse. In ideal world we would not have any of that but this is still better...

Yes, the Nations League was created to replace the friendlies but has anything really changed? Even though it's competitive matches now, most fans - and likely club managers - are still showing the same disdain and exasperation towards these games. It would still be understandable if it's the European Championship or World Cup qualifiers but what value has the Nations League really added? I know it offers nations another route of sorts to qualify for the European Championship and World Cup but they could have easily tinkered with the qualification format of those two instead of creating a convoluted tournament that no one cares.Β
