Where is @NikkiCFC? You of all people should be bombarding this thread atm.

Thought he was sharp yesterday in the pivot. Absolute joy to have him in the squad and reassuring we have him as an option vs Ruben.

Honestly, never got why people thought Conor couldn't play in a midfield 2.

No comments in this thread today?  He's young and still getting integrated to the side but he looked well off it today.  Great early ball to Sterling but after that more or less treading water

Hard to judge anyone playing alongside jorginho (not named kante). It was a bad combination and more testament to our midfield needs of a DM like rice more than anything.

He was the worst player on the pitch...

But I don't know what to think of it considering he was playing next to the worst player in Jorgi who shouldn't get game time at all. Our midfield gets run over if Kova or Kante aren't playing. We need Rice more than anything. A DM would solve so many of our problems.

Bad game but who played well? Hes still young and needs time to find his feet at a big club.

As said before months and months afo when he was “100 times better than Mount” or whatever, its one thing playing well for Palace in a 3 where he doesn’t have to be as disciplined or theres not that expectation but its another here when every team plays like its a cup final. Same for Broja which Tuchel’s said recently. Was same for Tammy, Tomori, James and Mount also.

He was poor but you cant fault his spirit. We know he can do better but playing in a dp with Jorginho is a huge mountain to climb. Can’t blame him for failing in the first try.

shows you how good kovacic and Kante are with their tireless work rate and ability to carry the ball making up for so many of Jorginhos countless limitations

He does seem a square peg at present.

Until we get a midfielder that is defensively strong to act as a base we won't be playing a back 4 anytime soon, so you do have to question where there's a role for him in the side.

I wonder whether it would be a better idea for Tuchel to employ more of a 3-5-2 formation that would allow someone to play centrally as a bit of a hybrid number 8 / 10. This role feels most suited to Gallagher and the same goes for Mount too, so you can have the pair competing for that spot.

We can then have more of a forward partnership between two which at present would probably be between Sterling, Pulisic, Havertz, Broja plus maybe one other if we buy someone.

Our forwards don't attack the box anywhere near as much as they should. It's too easy at times to drift and seek space which is usually out wide or dropping deeper. Pulisic probably does it best out of all of them but even he doesn't do it enough. You can just in the first three games see the difference with Sterling compared to our attackers. With or without the ball he's always looking and seeking the box. It sounds simplistic and that's because it is, it's really not rocket science, I've seen Pep before getting animated at half time or on the touchline because City's players aren't attacking the box and we do the same thing but Tuchel doesn't seem to force it enough. Maybe having two centrally in attack and another sat in behind would push that notion that they should be operating most and their best work within those lines of the penalty area and not outside of it.

Gallagher is an attacking CM. Press high and arrive late into the box.

It is not Jorginho fault, it is the manager who is not using him correctly.

I feel if we had a proper no. 6 like a rice, we would have a great mid field trio.

Problem with our current midfield mix is that, though they have significantly different attributes, almost all of them are 8s. Kante, kova, mount, Gallagher. And yes, i feel mount is far more an 8 than a winger. Each of the above mentioned 4 has incredible energy to close down and press. Mount and Gallagher have that eye for a goal while kova's dribbling provides something truly unique.

I feel a 4-3-3 would suit our midfield really well. Only if we had a true no.6. let's just hope we get rice next season no matter what.

I honestly think Mendy is the biggest obstacle to play in a 4-3-3, he is just way too poor on the ball. He has trouble playing out of the back with 3 cbs to give him options. No surprise that we tried 4 atb when Kepa was the goalkeeper.

An even bigger problem for us playing 433 is the lack of quality out wide in attacking areas. Bar Sterling. Thats another reason why we play with wing backs. Because James and Cucurella/Chilwell are more threatening out wide than most of our actual wingers.

Yep, another victim of TT. In todays lineup he plays more players out of position than not.

? More players?

They all play where they supposed to play.

The only one is Gallagher that is playing on wrong one. He should be playing where mount plays.

James, Mount, RLC, Gallagher, Havertz all out of position. Chalobah didn't play for us on the left side either.

James is playing as lb. What are you talking about.

Chalobah as CB.

I don't understand what you mean by wrong position. They all are right to me.

Only one out of position is Gallagher.
