Alabama 1,992
BREAKING: Real Madrid have agreed a deal in the region of β¬40m-β¬50m to sign former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara! Not a bad replacement for Kovacicπ Via: @Sport_EN https://t.co/dt5eKZGl9P I don't know how genuine the source is but the rumour seems to be all over twitter... Like I be said Kovacic is not interested in going back to Santiago as he desperately wants first team football and Julen said Real will sign Midfielder of great quality similar to Kovacic... So I am not surprised about the rumour....only left to Kovacic and Chelsea to finish up the deal... In addition Julen really rates Alcantara and even upcoming Dani Ceballos more than Kovacic...Spanish national team connection Dimitr, kellzfresh and Supermonkey92

Sideshow Luiz 2,310
One of the theories going around reddit yesterday, was that the option/no option to buy was not really reported on (or at least had a lot of confusion) because Madrid didn't want to let on that Kovacic might be leaving permanently.Β If that was known, it could have possibly made negotiations for another midfielder harder.Β We'll see. Pizy 18,917
Yeah...that sounds like a goodbye rather than a see you later. Maybe rather than an option to buy we have first refusal. If he does well we get first dibs, if not Madrid sell him to the highest bidder. El P. and kellzfresh

manpe 10,861
Is it possible that Madrid were prepared to sell, but loaning him was our idea due to the fee demanded? I'm no expert at FFP, but maybe paying 3 huge transfer feesΒ in the same fiscal year is too much to balance the books? Especially without CL money.Β Also gives the benefit of evaluating for a full year if he is worth that money.Β If that were the case, then having an option to buy would be a no-brainer. This thought came purely due to his Tweet above, it's a farewellΒ not a see you later, so he must be pretty confident that he will not be a Madrid player next year... and who else could he know to be likely to sign him than the club he is on loan at. I don't know how people might know about the option if it was not mentioned though. xPetrCechx

El P. 1,354
His career is so stalled that he is somewhat scared to go back to Madrid. If he assimilates well in CFC, he isn't coming to Real. Btw, if I catch him in Croatia that's the first think I will ask him. I caught Hazard once and took pictures with him, maybe I'll get lucky again. EDIT: We were always doing interviews for Chelsea Croatia with our players. We did it with DelaΔ, we are in constant contact with youth keeper Ε½iger (he is 17yo I think) and we got in touch long time ago with ex player Mario StaniΔ. But Kova is big fish to fry, hope to God we can get in contact somehow! Β AmblΓ¨ve., Unionjack and The Skipper

Pretty certain itβs due to FFP, he will be officially a Chelsea owned player next financial year. Iβm not even bothered to think about the Option to Buy clause now, be it exists or not, heβs ours. Of course, all based on he doesnβt flop. Chelsea Legend 11 and Unionjack
OneMoSalah 8,886
Sounds like Madrid are targeting Thiago Alcantara so this tweet makes even more sense. I think it was to sweeten the CourtoisΒ deal and also to give us more of an incentive to buy him next summer, at a cheaper price too as his deal will be a year off. One more thing to consider is that you don't actively seek a world class replacement to a loanee you have firmly in your future plans, you just don't. But Madrid are doing it. If this happens, then Marina will have pulled a masterstroke.Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk Unionjack

This could also mean that Modric is going to go to Inter.Β But that post from Kovacic certainly sounds like Bye, and thanks for the memories. The way I understood the deal, was that we wanted a GK and a midfielder.Β But, we couldn't sell Courtois until we got a GK.Β It was going to be virtually impossible at that point in time to get a quality player for both positions with whatever budget it seems that we had.Β Β So, we get Kovacic on loan, now we can spend twice as much on a keeper (which we did).Β We got both positions sorted and now Courtois can leave.Β Everyone wins. So, if there is a deal in place for Kovacic, then it's all about FFP.Β Much like how Mbappe went to PSG on loan last season.Β We need him now, but we'll buy him next season.Β Why would Madrid agree?Β Because it greases the wheels for the Courtois deal. Now, if this is all true, and how it pans out, and people are saying that Marina needs to have some of the stuff taken back about her (which I agree, this would be a really good piece of pull it out of your ass business).Β Then, imagine (100% not true, but imagine) if it turned out that Courtois knew about all of this, and staged his protest to force Madrid in to action?Β Worlds would be shattered.Β Β
