Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

I will only be mad at Sarri if he caves in and plays experienced players just because reputation.

Play young players and those who are actualy good. Simple. He gave Cho serious playtime so far and thats exactly what I want. If Willian and Pedro are shit, play CHO, dont play shit players over and over like Conte did.

If we had a breakthrough youth player, be it CHO or RLC (long shot) this season, then it would mean more than a fucking title. We won couple titles since 2000 and not a single english youth product in starting 11 since Terry.

Honestly the so called analysis r just irrelevant at this stage ...

In Sarri's strategy, you need someone doing the dirty work to cover the deep lying midfield and cover the defense. We didnt have a specialist hence the distance between back line & front, hence the reason why defensive kept falling back while no one pressed the striker who had a free run to the goal. Now put in one of the best i.e. Kante besides Jorginho and the results will be so much better. because now Kante is covering his deep lying playmaker allowing him space and doubling up while the defense is holding it's line & moving back.

I didnt get a chance to see the match but looking at the score line against a well oiled machinery says that we didnt do badly in our defense specially when it's a make shift one.

The problem at hand (Jorginho is not a strong lad when it comes to defense - my opinion) is that whether we get a creative no 10 (Fabregas) or a physical midfield with work rate (the ones we have are Barley & RLC). Both would come with Pros & Cons. Thats is something Sarri will have a tough time with the current squad.

I feel we wouldnt do well in the first few games until the system is ingrained in the players. Once it is done, then it will all come down to discipline of the players because this will only work if players show the discipline.

Lool  lets hope they deliver. Giroud is a world cup winning striker without a goal or shot on target in the whole tournament, but he had goalscoring Griezmann and Mbappe to score the goals. We have willian, pedro and hazard. Lets hope they can help the team.

Giroud was integral to France's system. Yes he mite not have a single shot to show for but his hold up play picking up defenders and allowing space for the others to score is why he played through out. Yes if you look at the stats it surely is a lousy data but football is not always about data :)

Having said that, I dont think Giroud mite have a chance in Sarri's system. In his system, he like striker who make runs between the defensive line hence Bats mite get a chance over Giroud. Morata for me is non existent for me at this point. Tammy not sure.

Good point on Giroud's hold up play. The main point I was trying to drive there was Giroud had mbappe and griezmann to take the goalscoring burden off him, so he could concentrate on the role Dechamps set out for him. But we dont have that luxury of goalscoring wingers in chelsea. Hopefully the players weakness get protected by sarri's system, but I hope it doesn't come at the cost of losing top four because we have failed to get a goalscorer (we wouldn't want kante to start considering the PSG offers would we?).

I think the analysis is good because every match (except the one today which comes too quickly) is an opportunity to see how far the squad are coming along.

I'm expecting to not do so well for the first few months.

There's an example out there (Napoli) of what the finished product looks like (or close to, because we are different), the analysis of our matches shows us how far we still need to go.

The reason I mentioned irrelevant because we dont have our main players in ... Once they're back then we would understand where we stand on day one and where on day let say thirty. Right now we got badly exposed as explained in the video :)

There's a site I haven't been to in a while, had a look for some Sarri articles and saw one that was interesting, and I don't recall seeing it here:

http://outsideoftheboot.com/2017/07/30/breaking-down-maurizio-sarri-tactics/

Edit:  most of it is stuff you've all read or watched by now.  But this video at the end of the article had a few nice examples of how the short passing distracts defenders and allows player to make runs in behind.

Sarri might have more pulling power than we think. When he was at Empoli Etoo came to him to meet and told him that he was his admirer. Sarri asked him whether he was joking. This Kovacic loan deal made me remember that incident. I don't know if this was shared before.

I like that the squad is not thin anymore and has decent backup players. Will need two players for each position with Europa League this year. Youngsters like RLC, CHO, Tammy, Ampadu could gain good experience rotating with the first team squad this year if they are retained.

Don't know if anyone's seen this:

But, that man stepping out from defence was not happening against City.  Rudiger kept backing off Aguero for the first goal.

because of david luiz, always away from  the right position, a real disaster.

Possession...check

Chance creation....check (or close enough)

Pressing...clearly work in progress, but should get there

The big question for me is....where are all the goals going to come from? The one consistent trend in our past few matches is the inability to maintain a-goal-a-game ratio

Giroud is not the most prolific, and then there's Morata. Unless Sarri creates a Salah or Mertens out of one of the midfielders, I'm a bit worried. Its a shame Pedro isn't any younger. He could have been a suitable candidate for the Mertens role.

Pedro could still play the mertens role imo. If Morata still doesnt improve after the first five EPL games, then it is worth a gamble to put pedro there. He understands the system, is still fast, is a better finisher than anyone in our team and will allow our front line to be more fluid.

IF we dont get a goal scorer of some standard today then I'm open to trying every possibility cause the ones we have now dont work.

SEEMS Tammy is staying but going by his opening tries I dont see why. Bats is off on ventures again. Giroud is just a target for crosses and sad to say Morata needs a good psychologist.

Pedro wont last a full game with his demented Freddy Mercury character but got to go down every avenue to find one that leads to goals.

Dear Bats,

This is your chance to show what you’re made of. You’re our last hope.

Otherwise we are screwed and 5th/6th place is calling for us at the end of the season.

Become our new blue superhero.

he already scored the championship goal :)
