Álvaro Morata

Only reason I'm not raging about him is that he has been scoring this season. But FFS, you're main #9 who cost as much as he did needs to score at least the majority of his 1v1's. Missing one every now and then is fine. Missing nearly all of them is ridiculous.

Diego Costa would've had a hat-trick today it must be said. The likes of Kane, Aguero, or Salah bury those chances. Morata has a mental block and his sloppiness has cost us 3 massive points there.

Serious question. Does anyone on here remember a worse performance by a Chelsea striker in all their years of watching the club ?

Nope. Genuinely.

The first one-on-one, he had so much time to finish.

The second one, to be fair the defender did well to narrow the angle but even so, any striker worth their salt puts the ball across the goalkeeper rather than going near post.

But the third one. Jesus. It's sitting up perfectly for him. He's got the time to choose if he wants to dink it, go with his laces, side-foot it. So he decides to fucking toe-poke it straight at the keeper.

He seriously needs to take a long, hard look, because I don't see him lasting another 18 months in this league. Not cut out for it.

Maybe because he never got into good positions often enough to miss three sitters in a game

He missed about 100 sitters thats why. There is no comparison between Torres and Morata, Torres took about 6 months to get his first Chelsea goal, Morata took about 10 minutes. Moratas finishing shadows a match where he did everything else to a decent standard. Ultimately you judge strikers on goals so that won't be talked about and after the chances he had rightly so but hes not even on the same page as Torres.

Give the chance that Torres scored against Barcelona to Morata and we would have come crashing out of the 2012 Champions League

That's true but there was games when Torres was generally a disaster, like the net would be half empty and all he'd have to do is touch it and it would end up smashing his shin and flying over the bar or something. I doubt we'll ever have to experience shit like that again although tonight was pretty bad for Alvaro. Really if he'd scored at least one it wouldnt have been that bad, think last one was most difficult cause it has to come down, its obvious hes not confident after the other two but even then he just needed to lift it over Cech. Costa would have got 2 out of 3 at least.

Stop using his "positioning and movement" as some kind of excuse or a way to justify him, he was SHIT.

I could maybe overlook this if it was a freak occurence, but he does it almost every fucking game! That's not good enough! His artsy-fartsy fancy-pants link-up and movement mean fuck all if he's not on the end to put them in. Depressing stuff really. :drunk:

That's because Torres rarely got into goalscoring positions in the first place. But yeah, Morata was utterly hopeless tonight!

You can't really stop using those excuses because he gets into those positions more than any other striker in the league. To do that is a great skill. It's just that when he gets there he shits his pants.

Confidence must be at rock bottom right now.

His finishing is poor but wow, now some fans saying he should be a super-sub and Batshuayi is better than him. Ridiculous. Couldn't make it up. He needs extra work on the training pitch but apart from that his movement is better than any striker we have had for a long while. His movement causes havoc for defenders. If only his runs and ability to get into one on ones matched his finishing, then he would be on tons of goals. Frustrating, however let's back him and support him. He will get his striking boots sorted with time.

The Torres comparison is even worse!

You should realise by now that he was a super sub at his last two clubs for a reason whilst Michy netted 23 goals & provided 10 assists in a dreadful Marseille team before joining us. He's yet to play a run of games for us since joining us, but people like yourself have written him off as if he's in Morata's shoes.

We'll be out of the top 4 before he gets any sort of boots on at this rate

What good did his movement do to us today? He wasn't involved in our goals as far as I can remember and the chances he got he choked making all this movement pointless.

I agree but also disagree  He is crazily inconsistent with his movement. His link-up play around the box is tidy, however he makes some very blind runs and often even crowds out the player on the ball. Costa didn't move all that much but he inhabited space quite often... he was intelligent inasmuch as he often stayed still, making space by default as defenders were drawn to the ball. Morata needs to learn do the same.

I'll look back at some of my posts tonight when I'm less angry and cringe, but boy, he's got some fucking serious making up to do.
