Mourinho: Full of trust

Jose Mourinho says his side are ready for tomorrow’s game at Newcastle United, our third in the space of a week, and the Blues boss has no concerns over the absence of Nemanja Matic.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference at Cobham, the Portuguese, whose side will set a club record of 24 games unbeaten if we avoid defeat, insisted the only objective is to secure three points.

‘I’m not looking for records, I’m looking for victories, points and if possible at the end of the season, titles. We just want to win the next match, that’s all,’ said Mourinho.

‘It’s a difficult stadium to play at, there are a few stadiums in this country that clearly when they see Chelsea shirts they play the game of their lives and when they play other teams they look like they are playing friendlies. Maybe it’s because, in the last decade, Chelsea have become a strong team everybody wants to beat.

‘We are ready for tomorrow and the only record I want is to win the title three times with this club.’

The manager confirmed Gary Cahill is fit and available for selection having been taken off at half-time during Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Tottenham following a collision with Jan Vertonghen, while also stating Diego Costa will lead the line having been suspended in midweek.

There will be a change to personnel in midfield, with either John Mikel Obi or Ramires expected to come in for Matic, who serves a one-match ban.

‘It’s another big player who is not playing but we trust other people,’ said Mourinho. ‘Matic has a free weekend, which he deserves very much, and he will come back stronger. Other people will play, we trust them so no problem.

‘Diego was also important for us but he didn’t play [against Tottenham] and we didn’t think about him.

‘Matic’s last yellow card was because a fellow player lost the ball and he had to make a defensive transition. Sometimes the referees give a yellow card when a player stops a counter attack, sometimes they don’t.

‘Mike Dean decided to give him one, which is acceptable, I just hope that in every game when opponents make fouls on our players when we start developing counter attacks the referees do the same. When you stop a counter attack you should get a yellow card so Mike was correct.’

Didier Drogba produced an impressive display against Tottenham, laying on the first goal for Eden Hazard before scoring the second, and Mourinho believes the Ivorian still has much to offer in a playing capacity.

‘I don’t know his qualities as a coach because I’ve never seen him coach,’ said the Blues boss.

‘He’s still a very good player and if he wants my advice I think he should stop when he wants to, not wait for me or the club to decide.

‘We want him, we love him. After that, I know Mr Abramovich is very happy to keep him at the club in any area he feels useful and happy, but that’s after he makes the decision to stop his career, which I don’t think will be tomorrow.’

So because at the end of his career when he had no use to us at the age of 36, he went to collect a cheque and sit on the City bench now he has an asterisk next to his name? LOL Does Dennis Wise have an asterisk? He played for Milwall who are hated by almost every football supporter in England. Kerry Dixon also played for Milwall, Jimmy Greaves went to star for Tottenham(though I admit he's more of a Spurs legend) John Hollins played for QPR and Arsenal! None of the players I've mentioned even come close to Lampard in terms of club status...

You answered that point yourself. They don't come close, that's why they're not significant enough to care about (with the greatest respects to them).. They never had the admiration Chelsea fans have for Lampard. He knew that as well, prior to leaving he acknowledged that admiration, that's why he said he wouldn't play for another Premier League club again[1]. He knew that his name would be held in legendary breath alongside Cech, Drogba & Terry and still decided to go back on his word.

no true Chelsea supporter will look back at this even 10-15 yrs from now and think he's any less than a legend/hero/classy individual as he was before he signed for NY.

If classy means saying one thing and going back on that, to your own fans, well then..

I'm glad he said it because that has been obvious for a while. Look at Sunderland: they were fucking queuing up to throw themselves at the ball against Chelsea but didn't put in anywhere near the same level of effort against City.

This belongs in the locked Lampard thread so I'm not going to continue on with this much more. I made my point and you guys aren't acknowledging and are starting to mince words. The fans still sing songs about Dennis Wise damn near every match! SO because Lamps is a bigger legend he now doesn't get the same adulation? that is so ridiculous I don't even know how to address that.

I guess in time, perhaps not for you, we will see just how loved Frank is at the club. What he's done for Chelsea can never be tainted by sitting on City's bench at the age of 36.

Had it been Liverpool, Arsenal, Utd or Tottenham the case might be stronger but even then I doubt he'd be vilified for playing elsewhere at 36. If I'm truly in the minority I will GLADLY accept that because what he's done for me and my club far outweighs anything negative he can do at City, and yes that includes scoring a late equalizer.

You really think they had the energy to put in that sort of effort against City 3 days later? Come on... City haven't won there in 5 matches before this one.

Fair enough, at least there's some recognition that there are many people who feel negatively (even those that go to the Bridge.. I remember one hero member making SB to be like an Ultra stadium)

Yeah, they put all their effort into the Chelsea game with no regard for their midweek fixture; I'm pretty sure they won't recover for another week or two. Sunderland don't even put in that kind of effort into the Tyne-Wear derby ffs.

Who the fuck cares about the "tyne-Wear" derby? My point is they put in the same amount of effort against us as they do against City, which is supported be the fact they have taken points in 5 of the last 6 games at the stadium of Light.

The fact that they failed to do so this time has more to do with fatigue than it does with them taking their foot off the gas. They don't play two a week often at all!

That may have affected them against Man City but on the other hand, if you watch the game, you'll see how ridiculous stand-offish they were on Wednesday. Gave City all the time and space to pick a pass, turn and run towards goal and there were hardly any challenges especially for the goals.

They have actually, at least in the last few derbies anyway. They have beaten Newcastle in their last 3 league games, a huge improvement compared to the solitary win in 16 matches before that.

Serious question. are you this daft or just intentionally playing stupid because i refuse to believe anyone can be this thick.

Even after i explained the term in bold you still went on foaming in the mouth.

By now anyone with half a brain would have recognised that the comment in bold is referring to lampard the person rather than lampard the legend which are two totally different things.

He remains a legend because there's no way to erase his accomplishment from the club's history i.e our alltime goal scorer, the trophies he's won etc (Lampard the legend) however his decision to join city has made him very unlikeable and made some fans lose respect for him hence lampard the person. Is it so hard a concept to grasp?.

Even those that have been attacking his legacy still recognise his status as a chelsea legend but are simply saying that status now has asterisk next to it. . . .A legend that betrayed his own fans and went back on his words as oppose to a legend like Drogba, a man of integrity and great character who considers the club and its fans in his football decision making process.

But who are city?

Are city United? Liverpool or Arsenal?

City, a team with few fans and that many people in the world don't care about.

So why should it bother me?

I would be more hurt if he had joined these guys and say they where the best team in the world and all that shenanigans.

By the way didn't Joe Cole said something of that sort when he joined Liverpool?

After he left to France he actually helped Chelsea by talking to Hazard about us.

So to me what Joe Cole said and did at Liverpool was all diplomatic just like Lampard at City.

The fact he was going to this NY club then suddenly 'on loan' at Man City and now they want to pay him to stay it was all set up from the start.

Frank Frank of all the players in Chelsea history I still can't believe it :(

City are a direct competitive rival, they are the fucking champions!, and the ONLY rival right now and for the foreseeable future.

What's diplomatic about saying you won't join a direct rival, then doing so.. and going on to deny us victory by scoring against us. Lampard is also lightyears ahead of Joe Cole in regards to status at the club and to the fans, so it's a laughable comparison, it really is.

Kenny Dalglish: "Looking for a weakness in Chelsea? You are clutching at straws" #CFC (Mirror)

Kenny Dalglish: "I see players in other teams who've got wonderful skills but don’t work hard enough. That doesn’t get you in the 1st XI at #CFC."

Kenny Dalglish: "[Chelsea have] a wealth of options up front, dangerous set-pieces, wonderful skill and a strong work ethic." #CFC

weird to see ex-Pool manager praise us..
