I have not seen more of him than the odds CL game but it strikes me that those Shaktor players also only work in Donezk. Yes they beat us and dominated us at the bridge but that was a Chelsea side with Victor Moses, Fernando Torres and a Mikel/over the hill Lampard/Ramires pivot. IMO this douglas costa is as overrated and vastly overpriced as Willian whose purchase I considered unnecessary in the first place, too.

So what is this guy good at? What does he bring to the team?

The good: He's fast, a good dribbler with excellent ball control who is very willing to take on his man (more agile and direct than Willian), a good passer of the ball, has decent vision, takes a good free-kick, is effective when pressing, can cut inside from the right onto his stronger left foot, will probably be happy to play a squad role here.

The bad: Currently very inconsistent, not much of a goalscorer from open play, doesn't send crosses in from the right regularly (he's pretty one-footed), untested at playing the highest levels consistently (although he has performed very well for Shakhtar in the CL for the last two seasons), isn't world-class or worth 30M pounds :P.

As a 20M-ish replacement for Salah (who might get us 12M from Roma either now or in the summer) he might work out for us. As I've mentioned on one of these threads already, he will probably be a better fit with our style of play than Salah has been. Will it happen, though? Probably (hopefully) not if the rumoured asking price is being reported correctly.

I am very familiar with his game when he was a youngster at Gremio trying to break through. Coaches did not like him much back then as he was completely incapable of tracking back much less defend. I have not been following his development, so I have no reason to doubt what you wrote above. He's a bit lightweight and short, so he could physically struggle in the PL.

Though he's always had a fantastic shot from distance and could score goals from nowhere; Salah has a lot more pace though.

Unbelievable, he's a leftfooted willian. He won't take the game to the opposition even with the good technique he has.

Left-footed Willian would be awesome because right-footed Willian struggles on the right wing with his one-footedness.
