I guess the million dollar question would be, does he want to stay and fight for a part time role specially if we get more midfielders in?

I wouldn't be suprised if we signed another central midfielder, but I think that might be to switch more between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 next season. In a 3-5-2 formation Fabregas would start everytime.

I never realy liked his play even in his first season when we won title and he banged those assists left and right, to me his overal play was just poor. Couldnt shileld the ball, did nothing in defence, always got dribbled past, jogged around instead of chase opponents,...the epitome were poor displays in CL. Then came last season and he was even worse much like rest of team.

But this season I must say, its first time I realy realy appreciate his contribution to team, despite not having as vital role. He plays more mature and has quicker responses, loses the ball less, but there were games when he was same old Cesc from 2014/15. Maybe he is still same old Cesc, with exception that he simply plays only against opponents that suit him and he can cover his weaknesses, but IMO he became better player under Conte.

In current role, he is crucial alternative for our team and must not be sold.

He is stil the same old Cesc except with more vigor now, couldn't do shit when his stamina runs out

He's just a lot fitter this season, and Conte's helping him a lot with how to position himself effectively when we're defending, so he's not a liability to the system. He's got that hunger for the game he used to have when he was younger back. He's still the same Cesc, but like masimaru said up there, just has more vigor about him.

I feel like Cesc is the only player we have that gives us real tactical flexibility.  The other subs and rotation players are kind of like-for-like.

I still maintain that he would be amazing in a "Pirlo role" as long as he's got 2 physical box to box midfielders next to him.

Can't sell him, he's crucial for us, IMO.

Yeah. He's the only player we have who can come on and change the game. And that is shocking for league winners. I don't think once this season we had a noticeable positive impact by bringing on Willian/Chalobah/Zouma.

Our central midfield options & lack of wingers is shocking, shocking, shocking. I think only the 4-2-3-1 has a higher need for plentiful wingers/midfielders.
We need a BIG summer, and we've only had one, IMO, since before 2010 (and that would be when we brought in Costa, Fabregas, Luis & Drogba.) Otherwise, It's always 1 really good player followed by shocking ones. Like getting Hazard but then also getting Marko Marin , Oscar, and useless subs we've already seen the back of.
Or the shamobolic summer, IMO, where our biggest signings were Willian & Schurrle, followed by Atsu, Van Ginkel, and Eto'o. That just screams 'Tottenham's most frugle summer yet!'.

Look at 2015's 'in' players - Pedro, Marco Amelia, Michael Hector, Papy, Baba Rahman, Kenedy, Nathan, Danilo Pantic. So we signed 1 player we'd go on to give more than 4 appearances to. How fucking shambolic.

And this last summer? Our big players were Luiz & Kante. Good. That's solid. That's the minimum. .........Followed by Eduardo, Michy, 3 youth players, who've made a combined, what, 2 and a half starts for us?

Why is it that 80% of the players we've bought in the last 10 years, haven't played 10 games? Not the manager. Not the players. This is all the terrible planning of the terrible board who get terrible praise whenever they do the basics right. The lack of foresight was seen by all of us in the summer when they failed to get a single Conte target other than Alonso:blink:

You can bet it's not even crossed one single mind in the boardroom how we're going to replace Fabregas when needed. But do you think the boards at City, Barcelona, Munich, Juve, don't think how they're going to replace their players, even 4 years in advance? They do. We don't. Chelsea have become reactive in times where everyone else has become proactive.

It is more than tactical flexibility, he is apart from hazard is our only creator. If we sell him, we need to sign another world class creator, i am not sure there is anyone that is available

So what do you guys think, does he start the final against Arsenal?

I think he deserves to but I cant see who's getting dropped.

Final XI likely to be -> Courtois - Azpi/Luiz/Cahill - Moses/Kante/Matic/Alonso - Hazard/Costa/Pedro

He'll play either way. First guy you call on is Cesc. I hope he embraces this role - his time on the pitch since January hasn't been too bad.
