I could agree that Pirlo had a lot of protection (Vidal-Marchisio / Gattuso-Seedorf-Ambrosini), but I don't think Pirlo and Fabregas were ever at the nearly same level.

Fabregas, with the same amount of protection, would still not be close to Pirlo, IMO.

No, Fabregas is not on his level. Pirlo was better at finding space for himself, possessed more magic, is a legendary set-piece taker and Fabregas never impressed as much in major tournaments like Pirlo did in WC '06, Euro 2012 and a couple of CL campaigns. Cesc played a part in the succes of his country but as an impact sub. Chelsea's title win in 2015 was the only time he played a starring role in a winning team.

Yes, and even then we didn't dominate any top side in the middle of the field. And played abysmal second part of season. Yes he had 18-19 assists, but still.

Fabregas is in a way what Casillas as a GK was at his last years at Real Madrid. Living on his glorious past, being child of Madrid (or Barca), playing for best time ever Spain side, being THAT player which we all saw as a immortal football legend...

There is a reason why he failed miserably at Barcelona. There is a reason why we can't truly dominate any oppositions for years at the middle of park with him playing. It's no coincidence or "different system" for that. It's reality.

Returns to the pitch like a boss., after being out for more than 2 months.

You always see a bit of ring rust in players who haven't had any match practice, but he comes back and starts pinging those long balls like it was 2014 again. Its almost like instinct.

First half he was meh, but you would expect that from a player who hasn't played for months. Second half was much better from the whole team and he's clearly an intelligent player. Can't believe we won away at City with Fabregas in a midfield two. Big props to him for stepping up!

But the game shows his physical ability is not good enough to play in two man midfied (I think we know that already) but it is just so sad the only player who can play that perfect ball to Costa in our team is fabregas

If he was abit more athletic he would be an undoubted elite. I always liked him and glad to see his long balls today. Was always going to be abit lost in midfield but he did work his socks off today. Kudos.

Yes true, but with Matic injured we need to use what we got, and he didn't let us down.
