It's not a bad team. Even with Torres.

Torres won't start. Whether it be from the beginning, or when they find out how dire he is. Which.. they will.

WHY CAN'T' WE EVER JUST GIVE A PROMISING YOUNGSTER CHANCES? i doubt this club will promote a youth player in the next ~10 years (well, we've promoted ake, but he's going to play what, 10 games this season? in the english cups as well)

Its a decent move, he would of got minutes here and there but the fact he had a massive injury last season maybe its better hes in Milan where he will definitely be a regular and can get a good amount of games and build himself back up without the pressure of competing with players like Fabregas and Matic for a place in the team.

All in all it means we have got the squad sorted too in terms of the foreign quota and everything.

Contradictory reports on the terms of the loan:

According to the terms of the deal, if Van Ginkel plays more than 20 games this season for Milan, then the Italians won’t pay Chelsea anything for the loan. [Gazzetta]

AC Milan News @Milanello · 34m
Milan will pay €0.4m to loan Van Ginkel for this season.
If he plays more than 20 matches: + €0.1m. Less than 20 matches: + €0.2m.

The right move for his career and Chelsea. It's one thing to stay and fight when you have a good chance to win regular playing time, but I'd be worried if someone would turn down regular playing time for a legendary side and choose comfort and an occasional sub appearance.

I'm interested to see what role they use him in. In a Chelsea shirt, I kind of think he's been a bit overrated. He's looked pretty reserved in all his appearances (I get that there's not been a lot of those and I'm including pre-season apps) and nothing has really stuck out about him as special except for being hard (sometimes too aggressive) in the tackle. However in the Dutch league of course he was meant to be this box to box midfielder and his goalscoring record was quite impressive in his final season..

I do wonder if right from the off if he's been told to play a more reserved, defensive game by Mourinho, which is fair enough if that's how he sees him but of course it was different to how MVG would have played for Vitesse. So yeah, interested to see the midfield role he has, hopefully we'll see how he does given the chance to make runs forward and drive with the ball (or if indeed he is best as a more defensive player at a top level).

Worrying.

Mikel was such a talent before he came to Chelsea and was forced into a DM role for all his years.

Watch Nigeria games, Mikel is a different player - worried MVG is going the same way.

Mikel was not some amazing attacking talent. Maybe in the ACON he is, but that's probably more to do with the level of competition.

I think he would've fitted quite nicely into this system, alongside Matic and Fabregas.
