Fernando Torres

That article is crap not because it's yet another poke at Torres but because it's so fucking tedious! Jesus christ, nice way to brush up on cricket, golf and David Beckham though. If Torres needs to brush up on his finishing (and he does), then Samuel should look for a competent editor.

You don't actually have to post every single shitty article you find you know..

I used to have a Google alert set up that would give me links to all Torres articles. I quickly gave that up because for every even handed article a la Henry Winter there were 20 poison pen articles from the likes of the Lipton, Samuel, etc.

Martin Samuel seems to like Torres a lot now!

Second article he written about Torres in a matter of couple of days....

Why post them then?!

You don't have to update us on every negative Torres story - we get it. You pay those rags every time you click on their links.

Chelsea 'could have signed Fernando Torres for £20m’ says former reserve team manager Brendan Rogers

Rodgers, who takes Swansea City to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, recommended the Spaniard to Chelsea when he worked for them.

Reserve team manager under Jose Mourinho, Rodgers was sent to the Nou Camp in 2006 to run the rule over the 21-year-old Atlético Madrid captain, who scored twice in a 3-1 victory.

In the end, Torres remained in Spain until joining Liverpool a year later, for close to £20million. In January this year, he signed for Chelsea for £50million.

“He’s a wonderful talent, a great striker,” said Rodgers. “I remember going to watch him back in 2006 when he was with Atlético Madrid. I think he was captain at the time. He was outstanding, a real catalyst for that side.”

Asked what his recommendation had been, Rodgers said: “To take him.”

Rodgers has charted Torres’s progress since, but hopes that his goal at Manchester United last weekend is not the sign of things to come. After all, despite his horror miss in front of the Stretford End last weekend and a paltry record of only two goals in 19 games since arriving at Stamford Bridge, he boasts more than 150 goals in senior football.

“I’ve seen him for a number of years now, he’s one of the world’s best strikers. He has obviously had trouble with injury which has affected his form, but you saw last week, just what a talent he is. He scored a great goal and the miss was something that he will want to put right as soon as possible.

“In reality he should have scored, but he did really well just to get into that position. I’m pretty sure that he’s getting back towards where he wants to be. I hope he doesn’t click too quickly.”

Barcelona was La Liga's Chelsea for Torres. I think he scored 7 in 8 or 9 games against them and that was with an Atletico team that never qualified for Europe.

And Torres was 20M plus Luis Garcia and add-ons. I think the total was closer to 26M. One of the add-ons was that AM would receive 250K (or 350K, something like that) for every 15 goals Torres scored for Liverpool.

Wonder why Torres didn't come to Chelsea? Did he say no? Did Mourinho not rate him?

I think that's one of the reasons why he went to Liverpool in 2007 but why did he not to go clubs from 2004-06 when he was on many clubs' wish lists? I guess it could have been he just didn't feel right about it until 2007 and Liverpool came calling. By the way, Tottenham was one of the clubs in for him. I've read Man U fans who wished they signed Torres and it's never been clear if he turned them down. Or that Ferguson had his doubts about him. Supposedly Ferguson didn't think Torres scored enough.

For three successive summers prior to leaving Atletico, clubs came calling about Torres. Torres kept saying "no thank you". After the infamous 6-0 loss to Barca at the Calderon, Torres decided he needed to leave Atletico. Even his agent said that loss was a watershed moment for Torres because of the mentality of the club at that time. The move would be good for him and Atletico could try to rebuild. Many think Torres chose Liverpool because of the Spanish connection - Benitez, Reina, Alonso, Arbeloa, etc. which is probably true. I'm sure Chelsea and United could have tried harder but the consensus was Liverpool were the front runners to get him at that time.

Here's a really interesting article during his first Liverpool season.

http://fourfourtwo.c...42/article.aspx

1. What he says about Terry - lol

2. He felt Atletico relied on him for everything and couldn't compete at the level he wanted. Funny how when he left Liverpool it was the same thing, a club relying on him for everything.

3. The Calderon and Atletico fans relationship with Torres. Having watched a few games during his time there, they absolutely loved Torres. The weight of the Atletico world was on his shoulders and he wasn't even 24 years old.

Here's the highlight video from the game. Ignore the 2005 bit, it's wrong. The game was played in Feb 2006. Loved that Torres cupped his ear at Nou Camp ^_^ If you watch the goal on Torres' site where the video is much sharper, you'll see Barca fans flipping him off

Does AVB know Dalglish is using his "obsession" word when speaking about the media and Carroll? The scousers and their media friends are obsessed with Torres and his price tag but the same shouldn't occur for Carrol? Hypocrites.

"I don't understand the obsession....I think people are obsessed with Andy Carroll".

"I'll tell you one thing. The fans are more supportive of Andy than some people that write about him, and that's the most important thing to him, and us."

"I don't understand the obsession with certain players. If the team changes, the team changes. The team changes not just for the sake of change, but for the benefit of everyone for varying reasons. That will continue."

"I said before the price of someone doesn't make a difference. That's not Andy's problem."
