Oscar

I think people need more realistic expectations for Oscar. He's clearly an immense talent, but coming from the Brazilian league to the Premier League is an enormous step up and to expect him to immediately be Iniesta or something is unrealistic and unfair to him. (Just like expecting Hazard to be Messi is unrealistic and unfair to him.) These are young players coming into a new league where players are faster, stronger, and more talented and they will have their ups and downs at least in the short term.

Fully agree. I think he's still got a lot to prove to justify the hype around him. The thing that worries me the most is his work ethics. He just looks lazy at times on the pitch, especially when defending.

I'm just waiting to see how everyone completely change their opinion about him when the season starts and he's not in our starting XI.

The thought that he could easily have ended up signing for Spurs makes me positively shudder.

It's funny, Spurs were closest to his signature and he obviously didn't want to play for that shit club by saying that he's staying at Inter.

Not sure if trying to be funny.....

And yes I was serious. I'd elaborate, but quite honestly, you don't seem like you're looking for a proper discussion.

Because he's right, but trying to put you down instead of just saying that he is hard working.

No way on earth is he lazy Cho. Just look at how he drifts all over the pitch trying to get involved in the match. He does it for the whole match and drops deep to help out the team. I also remember someone saying Oscar can do a pretty good defensive job if asked to.

Lazy is the last thing I'd call him. We're talking about a player who's constantly on the move. And he does a lot more of defensive work than your average number 10. You can't expect all players to defend actively, it's not his job.

I'm not too worried about his defensive duties, providing he can track his man and has a hugh work rate which he does then its fine by me, he doesn't need to be a ball winner, but a ball retainer and our playmaker, especially if at CAM, which is where we should be... We saw it yesterday, he got passed one man, looked for a pass to put neymar away, it was just blocked then he immediately chased it down, blocked the ball and won it back...

Sorry,I was just lazy to write something more seriously.

Oscar is constantly tracking back, filling the flanks and the empty spaces whenever the team is defending. It just doesnt look like he works hard enough because he doesnt go running towards the ball like a headless chicken a la Di Maria/Ribery

It's okay. I apologize if I came across as rude.

I've noticed this a few times that when his team is not in possession, Oscar seems to be walking casually around or stand in his place. I've seen him do the same for Inter as well. In last night's match, for example, he was only once in his teams third of the pitch (set pieces not included). That's not enough, even for a #10 here in the PL.

Besides, that's only one reason why I don't think he will go straight into the starting XI. First, like all players coming from the Brazilian league, he will need time to adapt to the PL which is much more physical and end-to-end. Ramires, for example, even though he played in Portugal for a year, he still needed a few month to get used to the PL. Moreover, he still needs a lot of experience for his positioning and decision making to be starting for us. The only was I see him becoming a starter is if we fail to sign another winger and RDM decides to play him on the right wing.

I realize I'm swing against the tide here since it is almost natural that we hype every young signing, so as I said I will wait for him to join the squad and for the season to start. But I'm just saying that we need to look at the matter a bit more realistically.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, different ones make it a forum, :) i do however disagree with you, in regards to him starting... if we were to sign someone like hulk then the competion for places would be emmence and three of, Hulk,Hazard,Mata, Marin, Ramires and Oscar would have to miss out, though as the squad stands at the moment i can't see him not starting with the alternative being Ramires on the right or someone like Raul merieles i think he should... Marin has looked good on the left and could slot in there if oscar isn't ready, but i am starting to think the Hulk thing won't happen and Oscar will play at CAM with Mata and Hazard either side of him... But we all will just have to wait and see.. :)
