Not sure about getting him in January in all honesty.

If we go for him now while there's turmoil at the club I think we have a better chance than in the summer when United and a City will push hard for him too.

Turmoil or not the players ability is huge, his stock will rise.

Earlier in the season, Jose confirmed that Chelsea had asked about an uncapped English player. At the time many thought it might have been Barkley but I think it was mostly Shaw. Zouma and Shaw in the summer and the defence is set for years

Chelsea to offer £4m for Southampton prodigy Luke Shaw

Chelsea are poised to offer £4m for Southhampton's Luke Shaw. The young left-back, who turns 17 on 12 July, has made only one first-team appearance for the newly promoted Premier League side – as a substitute in an FA Cup fourth-round replay against Millwall last season – but is regarded as an extremely bright prospect.

A graduate of the Southampton academy which has recently produced Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaw has been monitored closely by Arsenal and Manchester City as well as Chelsea but his future now looks most likely to be at Stamford Bridge.

Shaw was born in Kingston upon Thames but joined Southampton's academy at the age of eight. Described as "technically very gifted" by Sir Trevor Brooking, he has played for the England Under-16 and Under-17 sides. Nigel Adkins, Southampton's manager, has previously pledged to do everything in his power to keep Shaw but may find the overtures of Roberto Di Matteo difficult to resist.

Ashley Cole has been the No1 left-back at Stamford Bridge since joining from Arsenal in 2006 with the 22-year-old Ryan Bertrand as back-up.

 that change in value

I kinda feel like the stage is set for this one to happen, Cole on the way out, Shaw on the way in, him being a Chelsea boy, our increasing need for a new left back and lack of English first teamers (personally I couldn't ever see Bertrand being a first team regular)

I'd like to see Luke around for a while with Ashley Cole still around, could you ask for a better teacher for a brighter talent? So in an ideal world we'd get him this month and maybe even keep Cole on for another year, especially if Bertrand moves on

Price-wise, I'd say as mad as it sounds £20m considering his age, potential, contact at Southampton and the usually overpriced English talent. A lot I know, but considering his potential we could be looking at our left back for the next decade I'd pay it, his values not going down for a while

Just throwing in my opinion!

God how shit must Saints fans feel about this, building a very good side that's young and on the up with a class manager who had good ideas and a philosophy in place, now it's coming crashing down infront off there eyes.

However my ruthless Chelsea fan side comes first, lets strike while the iron is hot.

We really could use that momentum to sign Shaw, even though there is no imminent need. Cole will surely be here for another year, whilst i do not get why Mou is overlooking Bertrand who is solid defensively and lightning fast. Anyway what is behind that Southampton meltdown btw?

When he has been given the chance he has looked solid. Lets not forget he started the Champions League Final? The kid has talent. Granted, not as much as Shaw but still. I feel sorry for him under Jose, although Azpil has been class even at LB, why wasnt Bertrand even thought about, obviously Jose doesn't rate him and who am I to argue with him lol.
