I was talking about Rene Vandereycken, his predecessor, who was arguably even much much worse.

I remember a friendly against Morocco. They had a team of technically capable midgets, and we had five or six players above the 6'2 mark. He managed to put a team on the pitch with no wingers whatsoever, every ball played low down the centre of the field. No crosses were even attempted. I was watching in a full bar and every person in the room had better tactical capabilities than the national manager.

He's been with the national team as early as 2008 (!!), which would make him 17 at the time. He made several appearances, mostly as a sub. 17 appearances without goals before 2011 it says on Wikipedia.

Last year he made 3 goals in 9 appearances. Penalties mostly, but still.

Is there any reason Belgium haven't been able to get the best out of him? Only 5 goals in 42 caps is suprisingly low for a player of Eden's quality.

For comparisons sake, Gotze has 6 goals in 26 games while Neymar has 27 in 46 caps.

A lot of his caps are from a young age and from sub ins. Also Belgium had a really poor team in the beginning when Hazard made his debut so there wasn't much support.

When we finally did have a proper team George Leekens was our manager.

Just to give you an idea of how it was for Hazard.

There was this game vs Austria it ended 4-4. We were 4-3 up in extra time. Goalkeeper throws to Hazard who's on the halfway line. Apart from our striker our entire team was behind the ball.

Hazard tries to go past the fullback. fullback takes the ball, passes to midfielder, midfielder puts a throughball in to the winger,Winger slides it between our goalie's legs. 4-4.

Leekens afterwards in the Pressconference put the blame on Hazard (19-20 y old at the time) after that he was benched and put in the stands. When he finally did get his shot again. He was told not to dribble but just pass the ball.

Hazard did but when he saw that he was about to be subbed (60th minute) he dribbled past 3 players and his shot went inches wide of the goal. Got subbed after that, didn't shake hands with the manager and just went straight to the dressing room.

That's also when the hamburger "incident" happened.

I was very sad those days, I know he would be a top player 1 day and that idiot was giving hazard a bad image.

But after all if hazard came on the field the audience screamed his name.

One of the most important things Wilmots did was making the right players feel important.

He actually listens and is even open to input from the players at a certain level.

When Mboyo was selected, a player recovering from some really dark teenage years including a rape accusation, he asked the team whether they were ok with this decision before he actually made it.

The more you make hazard important the better he plays.

by it Wilmots said that it was because he didn't want to give any inside information like George Leekens did to them.

You have to wonder how many more talents Leekens would have destroyed had he stayed on as a manager.I just cant understand how someone could not give Hazard the permission to dribble?Thats literally a football crime!
