I am not mad at Hazard for speaking honestly about his situation, id rather transparency than lies. I genuinely believe he is truly conflicted, Madrid are his childhood dream, but he has become a man, built a family and succeeded with us. He might be thinking he has accomplished everything he could with us and CL glory is more attainable at Madrid but the grass is not always greener. He has stuck through some volatile times here and now things are looking better, but false dawns have come before. I 99% thought he was gone this summer, i am probably at 55% gone - 45% stay right now with the stay gaining momentum. 

To sum it up: He has served us well for a long time, if he wants to follow his dream I won't hold that against him. If he wants to stay, he will go down as a Chelsea legend and perhaps the most talented player to ever put on the jersey when his time is up. 

great post, i really hope Eden stays, but i will not hold a grudge against him if he leaves next season as he has served us very well since we signed him in 2012. He has matured in to the player we all see before our eyes and it has been an honour and a previlege watching him wear the Chelsea blue and dazzle us so many times with his brilliance, personality and professionalism, i think not since Zola and Robben have we seen a player of this technical caliber shine for us and it will be a very sad day if he ends up leaving, because he could very well become our best player ever if he stays, but no player is bigger than a club and Chelsea have lost brilliant players along the years and managed to cope, i guess thats just life, we all expected this scenario one day, but im sure that if Eden leaves he will make sure we get the best deal possible from him and build on from there. Cheers

Say around £150 million exempting teams in England? That way, Chelsea get the extension they want, and Hazard knows that (provided Madrid pay up) Chelsea can’t and won’t stand in his way (i.e. they can’t simply reject all bids). And he’d get a nice pay rise too, of course.

Hazard being our best player by some margin in most regards, grants him a free pass. He's doing his bit on the pitch despite having mixed feelings about his future, so there isn't much you can complain about. Courtois on the other hand was finding excuses every INT break to say something and had a history off "forcing" a move.

If Hazard moves on, he'll do it in a fashion that will be beneficial for all parties.

[Paco Gonzalez via COPE]: Real Madrid are not planning to buy Hazard in the winter. Rodrygo Goes will join Castilla in January. Real are looking into Eriksen as Modric's replacement and are also discussing about Neymar.

Hopefully they stay away from Hazard. They need goals and that Ronaldo level marketing from Neymar don't they

Thats only £104m and it's in January, which always carries a premium. They will offer even less next summer. We are going to lose over £100m in valuation if he doesn't renew. The board will end up partially destroying the club's future.

There is zero chance they drop the £200 to £250m needed to try and replace Eden plus buy a truly WC striker like Dybala or Icardi.

All the clubs know we will be desperate and will quote us insane prices. Fiorentina will probably want £80m to £100m for Chiesa. I think Icardi's 2 week window release clause in July 2019 will go up to around £120m or so from the £98m it was this last July. Dybala will cost at least £140m to £160m from Juve. Leon Bailey for RW will, if he has another great year, probably be in the Chiesa price range, far above the £65m or so it would have taken to buy him this summer (basically we could have taken the £65m from Barca we turned down for Willian and bought a nine year younger, better player for par in terms of net expenditure).

Instead of sorting these urgent things, the board is ludicrously fucking about offering ageing 30-somethings like Luiz and Willian extensions that will take them close to 34, 35 years old, thus washed up players worth almost zero and offering almost zero to the team by then.

Horrific business over the last 5 years or so when viewed from the big picture perspective. Double digit numbers of massive, window-consuming FAILS on potential buys, ridiculous low ball sales of players who are now global superstars, and shameful purchases of flotsam like Drinkwater, Morata, Bakayoko. Not to mention the Courtois nightmare that will now be duplicated with Eden, but hopefully without the acrimony.

I think a lot of hate towards Courtois was largely down to two reasons:

1. He failed to show up for pre-season (the main reason and probably the one reason why so many fans are angered)

2. His club performances were seemingly lacking. He had a few goof-ups last season and he was already angering fans at that point.

Hazard's case is no where close to this.

 

And I don't think its that unknown for star players to confess their desire to play elsewhere.

It was well known that Cristiano Ronaldo long favored a move to Madrid. He stayed on for one more season at Manchester Utd, at their request, and out of respect for his club./

That is true but IIRC, Ronaldo didn't remind everyone like every other week that he wanted to go to Madrid, no? We have known for years that Hazard fancies Real but does he need to remind us so many times? It's bad/worrying enough to see your best player want to go elsewhere but I don't think we need to get reminded about it so often and be seen like a second grade club compared to the other one!

We may as well make peace with the fact that he's going to give us a great final season and leave next summer. Just when we may see the absolute best of him he's going to leave and he'll do so for a cut price since it'll be the last year of his contract.

The only positive is that we won't be Courtois'd and will have this whole time to prepare and scout for replacements. Hopefully the club will shop in the top bracket.

Hazard keeps telling us that he might go to Madrid or he might stay and you keep telling us we should be prepared to see him leave every time.

I'm still 50/50 on this, whether he stays or goes.

I do know that he is irreplaceable.  But, we bought him before he was Hazard as we know him now, we'll have to find another.  

This uncertainty could possibly be the reason that we weren't so keen to let Willian leave this past summer.  Everyone knows he's irreplaceable, so you don't drop all of that money on a ready-made replacement, they don't exist.  If he leaves, we could move Willian over to the left (where he's better) and buy a couple of younger wingers who have the potential to be our main man in the future.

Let's see what happens.  I still think Madrid would prefer to have Neymar.
