That was a brilliant match. Deserving of a CL semi final. And a very much deserved result for Juve who were the better side for most of the match and perhaps were unlucky not to get a third towards the end. But 2-1 sets up the second leg brilliantly.

Indeed. I thought Real smelled blood and would score in the 2nd half. But Juve did really well. Even Pirlo upped the energy level in the 2nd half.

I don't think they'll win at the Bernabeu so if they could manage a draw... We'll see. Great game btw. So many errors, made the game fun.

How the fuck did carvajal make it to the end of that game? And he punched whats his face a few weeks again, the little shit. Didnt even get booking for the penalty. Again our referees show how shite they are. Juve played really well, hope they make it.

seriously by far the real madrid fans have the worst fans. you can spot the most fakest glory hunting fans of real madrid. all over social media and twitter, once real madrid are losing or being outplayed their fans start portraying bad signs of attacking their team online.

Vidal is an immense player. He has got everything in the bag. Pace, energy, workrate, passing, shooting, they are all there. He is truly an engine. I asked a fellow Juve fan about him and he said Vidal was great against Madrid but not even close to what he was last season. Imagine how that must have been.

Great result for Juventus but it's another win for Italian clubs in Europe this season. They won't do any good to England's coefficient ranking.

Is it possible for England to be given only 3 champs league spots next year?

Much has been made of Italian clubs' underachievement in Europe over the past decade. Truth be told, with the exception of Carlo Ancelotti's AC Milan, most took to the pitch with anxiety and doubt, looking to defend and pick their spots, rather than impose themselves.

It was partly a legacy of the past, when such tactics often did yield results in Europe, particularly for Italian clubs, who excelled at playing that way. But it was partly fear, that age-old malevolent calcio gene whereby if you dominate and lose you're an idiot, but if you park the bus, concede a single goal and fail to create a single chance, well, at least you kept it close.

CL Semi-finalists

2006: Arsenal, Villarreal, Barcelona, Milan - 2 Spain, 1 England, 1 Italy

2007: Chelsea, Liverpool, Milan, Man Utd - 3 England, 1 Italy

2008: Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Barcelona - 3 England, 1 Spain

2009: Chelsea, Barcelona, Man Utd, Arsenal - 3 England, 1 Spain

2010: Bayern, Lyon, Barcelona, Inter - 1 Germany, 1 France, 1 Spain, 1 Italy

2011: Schalke, Man Utd, Real, Barcelona - 2 Spain, 1 Germany, 1 England

2012: Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern, Real - 2 Spain, 1 England, 1 Germany

2013: Bayern, Barcelona, Real, Dortmund - 2 Spain, 2 Germany

2014: Chelsea, Atletico, Bayern, Real - 2 Spain, 1 England, 1 Germany

2015: Bayern, Barcelona, Real, Juve - 2 Spain, 1 Germany, 1 Italy

Spain - 15x (5x before 2011, 10x after - 4 different teams)

England - 13x (10x before 2011, 3x after - 4 different teams)

Germany - 8x (1x before 2011, 7x after - 3 different teams)

Italy - 4x (3x before 2011, 1x after - 3 different teams)

France - 1x (before 2011)

Quite a shift in terms of representation.

8x - Barcelona

5x - Chelsea, Real (0x pre 2011), Bayern (1x pre 2011)

4x - Man Utd (1x post 2011)

2x - Milan (0x post 2011), Arsenal (0x post 2011), Liverpool (0x post 2011)

1x - Lyon, Inter, Villarreal, Atletico, Dortmund, Juventus

Barca very dominant in both eras. Chelsea as well, with semi-final appearances in 03/04 and 04/05 to add. It's such a shame the CL was only won that one time..
